workin’ on my fitness.

Here’s a silly photo of our little family trying to squeeze onto a teeny tiny hammock during our camping trip this weekend.  It was too cold to wakeboard….or really even leave far from the camp fire, but we did have fun sitting around playing games and eating everything bad for you in sight!  Needless to say I’m cleansing right now….

Which brings me to my next point….

I’ve been inspired by my friend Brandi  over at Mucho Mucho Bueno Bueno, who’s been getting her fitness on.  She’s been taking photos of herself, everyday, post workout as accountability to get her butt in gear – literally :).  She even started a separate blog to document her fitness adventures with her hubby Jacob called Shape Up Bracob that you can check out here.

So in the name of solidarity (and getting a hot bod!), I decided to join her.  I’m not going to be as open as Brandi (posting bikini photos of herself and divulging her weight) because I’m too much of a scaredy cat, but I will be taking photos of myself post workout as proof that I’m working up a sweat.  I’m also going to be taking photos of everything I eat in hopes that I might think twice about the crap I shove in my mouth if I have to confess it to other people who will call me out on it :).

I started another blog to document this – called Lauren’s Losing It (check it out here).  I’m going to share some of my favorite workouts and favorite healthy recipes on it too.  I may not post every day, due to time constraints, but I’ll catch up on photos every few days.  I’ll also be posting photos of my food and workouts via Twitter (you can follow my tweets @LaurensLoDown)  My goal is to lose 20 lbs.  I’m not going to tell you how much I weigh, but let’s just say I carry my weight well and the actual number might surprise you.  In order to achieve this goal I plan to do the following:

WORKOUT PLAN:

*Do cardio for at least an hour 4x a week

*Do strength training 2x a week

*Walk on my lunch breaks on the Waterfront for 1/2 hour at least 2x a week

*Do one fun active thing every weekend (i.e. go out dancing, play frisbee golf, long board, hike, etc…)

*Stretch for 5 minutes before bed each night (hey it’s better than nothing!)

*Take photos post workout!

EATING PLAN:

*Eat three well-balanced meals a day, plus snacks (around 1200 calories/day)

*Include vegetables at two meals each day

*Drink 8 glasses of water each day

*Drink only water, coffee or tea – no soda or sugary juice!

*Dessert only once a week – sweets are my absolute downfall!

*Take photos of everything I eat!

I definitely have my work cut out for me since I’m not very good at sticking with routines, but I think these are reasonable goals…..I used to aim to workout everyday, but then I’d get burned out, so for me I think that four cardio sessions/wk. is good and anything extra will be a bonus.  The strength training sessions will probably only be a half hour too, so that’s definitely do-able.  I’m aiming for a maintainable lifestyle and I know I tend to be a bit lazy, so I don’t want to set myself up for failure :).

Wish me luck and feel free to follow along at

  2. Good Luck Lauren! I know you will be able to accomplish whatever the goal is you set to meet. My own piece of advice having been someone who is constantly trying to find the balance of healthy lifestyle – don’t get discouraged. It takes 3 weeks for something to become habit. Its something I always keep in mind when I get through week 2 and just want to give up

  3. okay, first i’m going to say that you already have a hot bod. seriously, you do carry any extra weight you have (and i don’t think you do) very well…not like my big thighs and butt!

something that seriously made me evaluate what i was actually eating was keeping a food journal. when i actually looked back at the end of the day, not at what i ate, but the amount i ate, it was a little disgusting. although i do like junk food, i truly don’t eat that bad, it’s just that i eat SO much!

anyway, good luck on your quest to have a hotter bod and get healthier. i’d like to say i’d join you, but i don’t have enough will power!

    XOXOXOXOXO

  4. So inspiring! I think your efforts will motivate me. I can’t wait to follow along.

  5. I love the taking photos of food idea!

  6. Hi Lauren 🙂

I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now, and I love it! I’ve never commented before, but this post inspired me with my own plan to lose weight.

I just wanted to make a suggestion concerning cardio. Are you member of a gym, or can you take classes? The reason I ask is because I started doing the spin class a few months ago, and it has completely changed my body (and metabolism).

I’ve been working out (on and off ha) for years, and was so afraid to try spin, and once I did, I was hooked. It’s intense, but addicting at the same time, and it will satisfy all of your cardio requirements. You burn 500-800 calories PER class!!!

I hope this helps…and good luck!!!

  7. Noooo! Lauren! EVERYONE seems to be getting their fitness on which, in turn, is making me think I probably should too. Gah.

Okay, I shouldn’t complain because it’s an awesome idea. But still. Being a couch potato is so easy!

  8. yay lauren!! you can do it!! i’m working on shedding some poundage too… we can do it together!! 🙂

  9. Best of luck! I’m sure once you get yourself into a routine you’ll have no problem achieving your goal! 🙂

  10. Good for you! I’ve been on a trying to get healthy kick and I love the idea of taking pics everyday. Not sure I’m brave enough to post mine though!

Good luck, I’m sure you’ll achieve your goal in no time!

  11. Hope this goes well for you! 🙂

  12. Good luck! Eating healthy and working out is good because it just makes you feel good. I totally need to work out more, not to lose weight, but to be healthy, maybe I’ll join too.

  13. Good for you, Lauren!
This is so inspiring…and I feel like eating lots of salads 🙂

  14. haha the photo of the fam is so cute.

  15. Good Luck! I know how hard it is… I am trying to eat healthy and work out regularly as well.. it’s tough, but it feels so great when you stick to it! You can do it!!!

  16. I wish you good luck on your fitness journey. It’s hard to start up your workout routine and healthy eating plan but once you get in the groove, you will feel so good, want to continue and strive harder. I fell off the wagon and need help and motivation to get back on track. I am planning to check out your new blog and I have a feeling it will motivate me to start waking up early and hitting the gym.

P.S. I have left you an award on my blog.
