my favorite thing about today #57.

My favorite thing
about today was….

an afternoon matinee with my bestie Jamie.

I hadn’t been to a matinee in ages and it was so fun!  Something about seeing a movie in the afternoon feels like playing hooky from school (don’t worry….it was my day off from work…I didn’t actually play hooky).

We went to see Bill Cunningham New York at Living Room Theaters and it was a wonderful, lovely movie.  Bill Cunningham is a fashion photographer for the New York Times and he is one of the most passionate people you could possibly imagine.  His love for fashion and clothes is incredibly inspiring – it’s just such a part of who he is and you can tell how much he loves it.  My favorite part is that Bill is so unpretentious, which is quite unexpected from someone so prominent in the fashion world.  Seriously – you should go see this movie if you have a chance.  I think even Craig will enjoy it, so we’ll definitely be watching it again once it’s out on DVD :).

I’ll leave you with a
quote from Mr. Cunningham…..

“The wider world perceives fashion as a frivolity that should be done away with.  The point is, that fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.  I don’t think that you could do away with it.  It would be like doing away with civilization.” – Bill Cunningham

Hope you have a lovely Wednesday!

  1. I need to see this! Glad you recommended it.

  2. That’s an interesting quote. Hmmm it made me ponder things deeper though. Does that mean fashion is armor, or a mask? Because as I kept getting stuck on the words “wider world” and I thought about that literally. All the world where there’s poverty and war where people can’t even fathom the idea of fashion being a part of their lives. They’re just trying to survive. So what does that make fashion for us in a “first world, middle/upper class” life?

    Hmm….

  3. An afternoon movie. I love that. I saw Jane Eyre Sunday afternoon in the theater. The movie was downer(I forgot how dark the book was) but it was fun.

  4. I nearly went to a matinée too but it was DOWNPOURING so I hid inside intstead.

  5. I can’t remember the last time I was able to go to an afternoon movie. It sounds like you had a lovely time.

    The end.

  8. Love a matinee.

  9. I am so happy you saw this movie. I cried four different times throughout the showing. So, so so inspiring!
