my favorite thing about today #59.

My favorite thing about
today was….
That my mom bought me a children’s book.
Just because.
(She works at a public elementary school, so she’s got a thing for kid’s books too.)
I loved Charlotte’s Web when I was a kid – and actually all E.B. White children’s books, so it was a sweet and nostalgic gift.  I love random, thoughtful gifts.  So much better than “because I had to” gifts :).
What was your favorite thing about today?

  1. I love children’s books!
I want to start collecting all the Dr. Seuss, Little House on the Prairie books and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margret!!!

  2. My mom sometimes does this too. She got me a cupcake cookbook a few weeks ago. It was an awesome suprise

  3. I love random, I-was-just-thinking-of-you gifts so much better than forced holiday gifts too. What sweet one from your mom. My mama once bought me (as an adult) the special edition of The Little Mermaid, as a random, sweet surprise. I loved it!!

  4. Aw, I love that book! I have a big collection of children’s books. I love looking through them.

My favorite thing today is pretty small, but my day just started. This morning I had exactly enough iced coffee left in my fridge to fill my glass perfectly to the top and I was very thankful for that today. Haha! :]

  5. I adore this book! :). It was one of my favorites as a child!

  6. That’s so great! I also loved Charlotte’s web! My baby is five months old and we’re slowly building her a great collection! Keep the suggestions comin’!

  7. my grandmother bought me this very same book for my birthday one year. it was my absolute favorite as a kid… so it carries much sentimental value on my bookshelf. This post just made me smile seeing it.

    🙂

p.s. i just wanted to let you know that i have a new blog url: http://erin-elder.blogspot.com

    happy thursday!!

  8. That’s really sweet. I’m trying to think of a “thoughtful” gift for my mom’s birthday, but I’m having the hardest time. I’m probably thinking too much.

  9. That’s really sweet of her! Most of the books Bennett has are ones that my parent’s boxed up when we were too old for them (Charlotte’s Web included). When you have kids you’ll have to find your old books (if your parents kept them) and add them to your collection! 🙂 It’s so cool to read them the same books you loved as a kid!

  10. I like this book when I was younger but my favorite book featuring a pig was Priscilla 🙂
I agree with liking random just because gifts better.
My favorite thing about today was waking up early and having time to sit and read blogs before work. I hope you have a great day!

  11. That was one of the 1st chapter books I read by myself:-) Such a good one! It’s fun to be young at heart! xoxo

  12. That’s so thoughtful of your mother! I’ve never read this book. I definitely should.

  13. I remember reading it in grade 5, haha.

Hmm, my favourite thing about today was getting up super early (okay, well, maybe not THAT part) to visit the Russian consulate here in Ottawa to get my Russian travel visa. It was a pain in the ass to get so I was super happy and relieved once I got it today 🙂

  14. I love that book as a kid. Read it multiple times and saw the movie tons. My favorite thing about today is that it’s sunny. I love sunshine.

  15. aw I love that book! I miss reading children’s books. I guess it’s something to look forward to when we have kids one day (far far away haha).
