my husband is a culinary genius and i am a cooking slacker.

I hate cooking dinner.
Yep.
I said it.
Every night I come home and experience that 6:30 feeling of dread and last night was no exception, except for the fact that I had a massive headache and the dread was even worse.  Craig lovingly offered to make dinner, but then we realized there was only one chicken breast dethawed.  Cooking fail.  So I told him I’d just boil up some tortellini and he could make the chicken for himself.  About 30 minutes later I experienced the worst kind of food envy because my husband is a culinary genius and I am a cooking slacker.
EXHIBIT A:
My dinner.
*pre-made tortellini
*tomato sauce out of a can
*tomatoes out of a can
(essentially I had fancy spaghetti-o’s for dinner…it looks way better than it actually was)
EXHIBIT B:
Craig’s Dinner.
*Rogue Dead Guy Ale marinated chicken burger
*Topped with homemade broccoli slaw (like actually from the stalk) and fiery onion strings
*Homemade french fries
*Herb zested Broccoli
COMPARE:
It’s really not even a contest.
Sometimes I wish I cared a little more about the food I eat enough to put in the effort to cook it.  Maybe one of these days I’ll stop being a cooking slacker and take a tip from Craig’s culinary genius.
Hmmmm….

We’ll see.
I’m rather partial to having cereal for dinner though, so I’m not sure.

P.S. Total side note, but I did a post over at Babble today that I think you might enjoy if you’d ever gotten stuck playing awkward baby shower games.  Here are some non-awkward alternatives.

Comments

  1. I say hooray for cooking slackers!…for I am one also.It really depends on the day or my mood, but mostly I am the ultimate cooking slacker…I wonder…Is it hereditary? If only your Dad were a culinary genius, the world would be a more wonderful place to live. 🙂

  2. I am the same exact way. My typical dinner is grits or pasta or something simple. Popcorn is my favorite meal lol. Robert is a much better cook than I am!

  3. I’m terrible at cooking dinner. Sometimes I have a few days where homecooked everything sounds good. Then I totally lose ambition, lol.

  4. haha. great post. i can relate, my husband is the chef in this household. have a great tuesday!

  5. Cereal is one of my favorite dinners. In fact, I could eat it all day (I’ve been known to whip it out in the lunchroom at work)

  6. This is too funny. In my relationship, it’s the opposite. I love to cook and if Vito had to fend for himself, he’d probably eat a sandwich every night. & cereal for dinner? I don’t see anything wrong with that! 8)

  7. Goodness, you just wrote my life. My partner and I fit this description to the T. I’m trying to get better, but after 10 hours of work, the last thing I want to do is stand in the kitchen. :-/

  8. Haha I’m exactly the same way! I hate/suck at cooking and my husband can take anything and make it into something amazing. At least by being pregnant you have an excuse for not feeling up to cooking…I’m just lazy 🙂

  9. Wow! My husband can’t make toast. He brought me some, and I asked him why it wasn’t brown.

  10. you guys make your own dinners? I think thats effort in itself. I would have just starved and waited for Jacob to get home! hahaha

  11. I think that’s a great reason to get dinner cooked for you every night. My fiance cannot even make pasta 🙁

  12. I feel ya. I just don’t gain fulfillment in cooking. Baking I enjoy, but cooking daily? Eh. I’m a fan of pizza and cereal for most self-prepared meals myself. =)

  13. Ok, I have to admit that his food looks delicious and yours… not so much. He should have given it to you! After all you ARE growing a human!

  14. I know Craig eats a lot, but it totally looks like there is enough food for two people on that plate. I hope he shared. I wish Jeremy cooked like that…

  15. That was great! Love it! If your husband gives me the recipe for his dinner. (I think yours is pretty self explanitory.) I’ll share it with the Rogue Nation.

  16. I am too lazy to cook these days. I could live off of thin crust pizza and chips & salsa for the rest of the summer.

It looks like Craig spent a lot of time making his dinner but yours looks good too. Pasta is so good but so bad.

  17. Yeah, I’m a horrible cook too. My husband has been attempting to teach me, but it’s not going so well.

  18. looks so much like what could happen in our kitchen!!

  19. MMMMM! That burger looks incredible!! But, I would be happy to eat that pasta as well :)!! XO!

  20. Wow. Craig wins :D. You’ve got a genuine chef on your hands.

  21. I’d love his recipe! Looks delicious!

  22. really love your blog 🙂
