A couple of weeks ago I co-hosted a bridal shower
for my future sister-in-law.
I love party planning, but now that we’re on a tighter budget it can be a bit trickier. I want to be able to host parties and I want it to look nice, but it needs to be affordable.
So, here are a few of my solutions for
party planning on a budget:
1. Work with what you’ve got
*My mother-in-law (who I was co-hosting with) has a TON of china so I decided to go with that theme and make the shower a tea party.
2. Shop for decor around your house.
Basically all of the non-DIY items came from my house. Just walk around and see what you find. You might be surprised!
3. Get creative with floral design.
The flowers for this shower came from a variety of places… some were picked from my yard, some were plants I owned, a few (i.e. the Queen Anne’s Lace) were scavenged from the road side and the rest came from Trader Joe’s (cheapest flowers EVER!). All of the vessels were from my house – tea cups, jars, tins and even a colander were repurposed as vases. Another trick that I regularly use is dividing up bouquets into multiple vessels instead of putting a big bouquet in one vase. This takes up more space on a table, makes your flowers go further and it seems like you have more of them.
4. Make your gifts do double duty.
If you’re giving the guest of honor a bouquet, use it in your decor. If you’re giving them a pretty bowl, find a way to work it into your look. In this case, I gave this print to my sister-in-law, but used it during the party as a wall hanging.
