refreshed and renewed.

Now on with the post…

Sometimes (OK, a lot of times) when you’re a mama you feel emptied.
Not empty…there’s obviously a lot of love going around – love from my husband, love and snuggles from my baby girl, so I feel far from empty, but rather emptied. The job of a mama is never-ending and everyone is taking a little piece…physically and emotionally. There are meals to make, errands to run, laundry to do, bedtime routines to follow through with. Then add to that teething drama, everyday marriage challenges, blog writing, freelance styling and it’s often more than a bit overwhelming.  I get so busy doing, doing, doing and going, going, going that I forget to take time for the most important thing in my life – my relationship with Jesus.
Spending time praying and reading my Bible falls by the wayside when there are so many other things that seem more important. But, the other night while I was at coffee with my friend Echo lamenting my feelings of being overwhelmed. She offered a listening ear and then asked me how much time I’d spent praying. Answer: not a lot. I have so much going on in my head these days that it’s hard to stay focused during a prayer and I told her this. She encouraged me to try to take some time and journal my prayers.
So. I did.
Armed with some pretty new notebooks and pens I headed out to a coffee shop while my mother-in-law watched Fern and I wrote out what was in my heart and left it all there on those pages for Jesus. I left that coffee shop feeling refreshed and renewed and ridiculous that I didn’t do this sooner.
It’s amazing how God can work in my heart when I leave room for him.

  1. I am so glad that you took some time for you. you are a great mom and I know you LOVE Fern SOO much. But sometimes you just need to take some time to refresh and renew. so great!

  2. There’s something I love about new journals!

  3. mmmm, I love hearing this. Even without kids life can get overwhelming and quiet times with God can get pushed to the wayside. But I always feel renewed when I take some time to sit, read, write and pray. God is good.

    Love you friend!

  4. Good to hear you took a little time to yourself. I think young mothers feel as if they need to take on SO MUCH and try to do so many things for other people (namely their families). I think that’s great and you should want to give your family as much as you can but you also need to have time for yourself as well.

  5. This is definitely convicting. Jesus has been falling to the wayside in my life too.. It’s crazy how everything else seems to take precedence. I’ve been saying I’m going to start a prayer journal for awhile now.. Doing it tonight, hands in

  6. Thank you so very much for this. I am not a mother, but I know we can all relate to “not having time” for time with the Father. I so needed to hear this. It’s encouraging. Thanks so much 🙂

  7. I loved reading this post! For the last few years, I’ve been journaling my prayers every night before bed. It always leaves me de-stressed, calm, and refreshed all at the same time. What a good reminder to continue praying + turning out lives to God. 🙂

  8. Amen to this! It’s so easy to get caught up in life and leave God out of it, but that’s always when life is so hard, because you don’t have him there with you guiding you.

  9. love you!

  10. Awww… hang in there friend. I’ve totally been there. It’s so easy to go about your day and forget to feed your soul. Blessings to you!

  11. yes yes yes to this! I feel like I’m constantly getting smacked with this revelation. God is sooooo good:-) xoxo

  12. I think you always have to take time for yourself and whether you write your prayers, intentions, goals or dreams, it’s just nice to spend time with you and your thoughts.

p.s. I still love your clutch. I want one but can’t afford it right now.
