Halloween Kids Costume Brunch: Best Idea Ever

I’m pretty sure (OK, totally positive) that I have mentioned my love of Target at least 18,000 times here on this blog and across the interwebs to anyone who will listen. And I’m about to gush again, because they were kind enough to send us a motherlode of fun Halloween items!

So what does one do with a massive box of Halloween stuff? They host a Halloween Brunch of course!

It was the perfect play date and a fun way for little ones who might be too young for trick or treating to get in on the costume fun. I kept things low key by sending out text invites via my Red Stamp iPhone app and asked each guest to bring along a Halloween inspired brunch item to share with the group.

Here’s the set-up. I still have that little skeleton banner hanging up – so cute! I pulled my chalkboard in from the other room to serve as a backdrop and then laid out all of my fun Halloween swag. Yeah. I just said swag. I don’t even know. Oh, and pretty much all of the items you’ll see throughout the post can be found at Target – their Halloween section is kind of insane – pretty much every Halloween item you could ever possibly think of is there.

Eat, drink and be scary! A variety of food options for the littles ranging from healthy: green eggs, green monster smoothies, and apple slices…to things that were special treats: Halloween donuts, pumpkin bars and even a few candy items.

Here’s a close-up of some of the fun items I got to incorporate. Those claw serving utensils and the claw bowls were my favorites. I filled them with fun treats like gummy tongues and pumpkin gum balls. The striped paper straws were great – especially the short orange ones – great for kids. I always like tying in my color scheme with essentials like straws, utensils and plates and Target made it easy.

This tablecloth was awesome for having the kids eat on. It’s actually vinyl and wipes off easily, which is perfect for messy kiddos and it was fun for them to be able to eat picnic style and made it easier for the grown-ups.

Spooky orange juice. So simple, but fun!

Green monster smoothies – the wiggly eyes were a nice touch if I do say so myself!

…AND goody bags. All of these items came in packs of at least six or more aside from the scary sound tubes (right), which made them great as party favors.

I made my own bags from paper lunch sacks I had and then added a strip of washi tape and wrote “Boo!” on them. I thought they turned out pretty cute and they were beyond easy.

And then there were the parade of costumes…I maintain that kids in costumes are pretty much the cutest thing on the planet. Also, I assure you that this is the best photo I got of Fern and Buckley in their coordinated gnome costumes, because they were both so wiggly! This one is going in the future wedding slideshow for sure…you know…if Fern is into younger men that is.

Huck as Mickey Mouse…too much.

Even Axel, our littlest guest got dressed up!

This is his sister Pearl. Obviously stoked that I am taking her photo. Cutest little aerobics instructor around.

And the costume parade would not have been complete without Bennett showing off his big, strong Thor muscles.

I’ll definitely be hosting another Halloween brunch next year – we had so much fun!

Love and brunch,
