Way After the Fact Halloween Post

Yes. I do realize that it is now November 7th and the Halloween was a week ago. But, I’m still going to post a few photos from Fern’s “first” actual Halloween. I say actual because she actually got to trick-or-treat this time and it was really ridiculously cute.

We even did a costume change because Fern is a diva like that (or because, I couldn’t decide between her two cute costumes…).

COSTUME #1: Mini Macklemore a’la “Thrift Shop”

I swear she was more excited about this costume than this fist photo indicates. We put it on and then danced to the “Pocket” (AKA what Fern calls “Thrift Shop”) music video and I showed her that she and Macklemore had the same coat and she seemed pretty pleased about that. Also, please take note that there is zero actual Slurpee in that cup, because I am not completely stupid and didn’t wish to deal with a sugar crashing toddler all evening. This girl already got her mama’s sweet tooth, so she currently has no idea that juice exists and I’d like to keep it that way for a long while, since she definitely already knows what ice cream and cookies are.

We wore this outfit to go get cheapo burritos at Chipotle. If you dressed up you got your burrito for $3! Score!

Then later, after dinner we went over to my in-laws house with my parents to take Fern trick-or-treating. We did a costume change into her adorable peacock costume, because I didn’t want to have to explain to everyone that I had not in fact dressed my child up as a baby pimp for Halloween. Plus the peacock was definitely more “oooh” and “ahhh” worthy with the older set who was passing out candy.

We actually got her to say “Trick-or-Treat”, but she would only say it before the door to the house was opened, never when someone was actually there with a bowl of candy. She got the hang of the candy-taking business pretty quickly and within two houses was attempting to take fistfuls.

After a bit of trick-or-treating we came back to my in-laws house where they make “camping donuts” on their front porch for all the neighbors and trick-or-treaters. Fern loved watching all the kids in costumes and snuck three donuts for herself. Well…I let her have one and then she decided they were delicious and snuck two more. She also ate a fruit roll-up from her candy bag (the Clif bar style ones, so not even the fancy red dye 40 variety, because I’m super mean). I thought we’d struggle because she would want more candy, but that was more than enough sugar for her and she forgot all about it after that. I ended up just throwing the rest of the candy away later since I have zero self-control and there actually wasn’t much anyway…little legs aren’t up for marathon-style trick-or-treating.

COSTUME #2: Peacock…or NBC logo. Take your pick.

And that completes our Halloween adventuring! Looking forward to next year!

  2. I LOVE both of her costumes! So perfect! :] Trick-or-treating is so much fun when they can actually walk around and attempt to grab handfuls of candy!

  3. i so wanted to dress up parker as macklamore (people tell me she and my husband look like him)…I had a leopard print fuzzy jacket i was saving but when I tried to put it on her it was too small. 🙁 Fern of course looks freaking adorable.

  4. Braedyn Pratt says:

    where are her shoes from?

  5. where did you get those awesome little sneakers! ( that i would wear as an adult and my little probably wouldn’t wear if i bought them for her!)
