What Fern Wore: To See Santa

Yesterday Fern met Santa.

She knows who Santa is sort of, but I’m pretty sure she regards him along the same lines as she does any dressed up character at this point. She doesn’t know anything aside from the fact that he wears a fantastically fuzzy, red suit and that his beard is pretty epic. She also liked that they both had boots on and was quick to point out this fact to jolly old St. Nick: “Santa has boots on!”

We went with my mom and my cousin Danielle and Fern’s little cousin (2nd cousin) Harlow and we all had so much fun!

Also, Fern got to wear this ridiculously cute outfit from OshKosh which I’m kind of obsessed with. They sent us a gift card to pick out a few things recently and I’ve been so impressed! I always thought of OshKosh as just having overalls and sort of rough and tumble clothes for boys, but I was totally off! They have some ridiculously cute things and I will definitely be shopping here more in the future. Their clothes are a great balance of cute, but not cutesy and the value is great. I like to dress Fern in things I would want to wear myself, but I also want her to look like a kid and not just a miniature adult all the time. OshKosh is perfect for this! Also as an FYI, they’re having a 50% off sale throughout the entire store right now, so you should definitely check it out!

OK, now back to Santa and Fern and Harlow…some pre-Santa photo opps, because that’s what happens when you have a blogger for a mom.

Picking out their candy canes. I’m pretty sure this was Fern’s favorite part of the entire outing, although she thankfully forgot about it almost immediately and never actually ate it. She did bring it up multiple times throughout the day though and even when Craig got home from work and I told her to tell him what we did today she said, “Candy cane from Santa’s basket!” Girl knows what she likes.

Harlow was a little unsure about Santa and refused to smile for photos, but Fern had no problem with it. She walked right up to him and said, “Hi Santa! Hi Santa!” over and over.

And just because I’m a mom and think my kid is ridiculously cute, I’m posting three nearly identical photos of Fern with Santa, simply because I can see the nuances in her expressions. And the look of pure joy on her face is definitely worth documenting. Also, this Santa was pretty great and he didn’t smell like beef and cheese, so we were pretty stoked about that.

  1. I love the Santa smell reference and her outfit! My daughter Ingrid is about the same age as Fern. Are you planning on buying her another pair of Hunter boots when she grows out of them? I want to buy her a pair but wonder if they are warm enough and if price tag is worth it.

    • Lindsay – This style of Hunter boots is $75 and there’s no way I’d ever pay that much. These were $3 from a rummage sale, which is obviously a steal. I’d pay more than that for them, but definitely not $75…or even $50 for the shorter version. Kids grow out of shoes way too quickly for that. I have a friend who gets Hunters for her girls on ebay and they always look great! Kids aren’t super hard on rain boots, so even these ones that were used looked practically brand new. If you live in a rainy climate like the Pacific NW then they’re definitely worth investing in though. These ones are too big for her still. A size 7 or maybe even an 8 I think and she’s only a 5. With tights and an extra pair of socks they work though, but I have her wear different shoes for when she’ll be running around. They’re mostly for looks right now which I’m OK with :).

      • I still can’t get over you found these for $3. Did you know that Hunter sells a cleaner for their boots to remove the “blooming” (the gray film)? I guess some people like it but if you don’t, it is $8 on the Hunters site and Nordstrom.

  2. She is just precious – and what a great Santa!

  3. So adorable!! What great pictures you captured of Fern and Santa! <3

  4. That little no-teeth smile she’s giving Santa is ADORABLE. Love her outfit, Lauren. xoxo

  5. The cousins picture with Santa is painfully cute. Cute cute kids!
