10-Minute DIY: No-Sew Heart Sweatshirt

This sweatshirt DIY is so quick and easy I almost feel guilty sharing it…almost.

The thing is, I truly believe that a good DIY isn’t necessarily one that is involved and requires a lot of skill. I think the best DIYs are the ones where you see them and think, “Gee! That’s super cute…AND super easy. Why didn’t I think of that?”

My DIY motto is: minimal effort, maximum impressiveness.

Time is a hot commodity (especially when you’re a mom!), so the super involved DIYs are out and now I’m all about quick and easy projects that still look cool. This little heart sweatshirt DIY is pretty much the embodiment of that. It truly doesn’t get any easier than this. Also, it’s a great last-minute Valentine’s Day project, but can still be worn long after V-Day is over. Win/win.

Oh…also, thanks to Hanes for sending sweatshirts for me to get my craft on with! One of the perks of being a Hanes Comfort Crew Ambassador :).

Here are the directions so you can make your own…or if you’re cheesy like me you can make matching ones for you and your child. Yep. She’s totally going to love that I did that when she gets older and sees the photos one day. Confession: I actually did make one for myself too, but didn’t feel like actually doing my hair and makeup to have my photo taken, so you can see the one I made for Fern, because she’s way cuter anyway.

DIY: No-Sew Heart Sweatshirt:

1. Gather your supplies

You’ll need:

*Sweatshirt(s)

*Fabric scraps for your heart

*Stitchless Sewing Fabric Glue

*Scissors

2. Cut out your heart

You can be all fancy about it and trace it out first if you want. OR…you can go Kindergarten style like I did and fold the fabric in half to cut out the heart free-hand. I truly am a lazy crafter.

3. Apply your magic glue

Pretty much anything that promises magic in a tube is a winner in my book and this “sewing in a tube” business definitely fits the bill. I’m always looking for DIY shortcuts, because any DIY project that takes longer than 10 minutes just isn’t happening these days…and also I totally can’t sew. Be sure to follow the instructions on the glue bottle. It will tell you to be sure to wash your fabric first and other such useful things which I totally did (*wink, wink*). Oh…and apply your glue evenly and not in swirls like I did – especially if you’re using a thin fabric like this or you’ll see the swirl patterns a bit when it dries. …Not that I’d know from experience of anything…

4. Apply your heart to the sweatshirt

Again…you could be all fancy and measure to be sure it’s perfectly centered, or you could just eyeball it and stick it on there. I’m pretty sure you can guess which approach I took.

5. Admire your lazy crafter-ness

Yes. Crafter-ness is absolutely a word.

Full disclosure, I haven’t tried to wash this sweatshirt yet, so it’s possible it could totally fall apart, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed! Also, I think if I were to do this again I’d use a heavier weight fabric for the heart so it wouldn’t fray. I’m pretty sure the thin gingham fabric I picked is going to fray eventually. Live and learn.

Love and lazy crafter-ness,

Lauren

  2. Haha you are a crafter after my own heart. I’m just so lazy and if it even mentions a stitch I’m out. THIS however is super cute and easy, aka I’ll probably try it. Thank you for a craft the rest of os us minimalists can work with!

  3. I LOVE This!!! I’m such a lazy crafter also! If the supply list goes over 5 items (I pass). Fern is just so adorable in her heart sweatshirt!
