Portland Places: Eb & Bean

I love (no seriously LOVE) frozen yogurt.

It was the one food I still craved during my Whole30 and I knew it would be the first non-compliant food I would indulge in when it was through. My favorite frozen yogurt spot (Yogurtland) closed shop during my Whole30 which almost brought me to tears, so I tried some random place that served Yo-Cream and it was AWFUL. Like SO bad. I just opted for the tart version, but even so, the yogurt tasted overly sweet and chemical-y (yes, I realize that’s a made up word). I was so sad.

But then, the heavens opened and God smiled down on me in the form of a post in my Instagram feed. Someone I follow posted a photo of their kid eating local, organic froyo…at Eb & Bean…and it was here in Portland!

And so we went. And it didn’t disappoint. All the ingredients are local and delicious and they even have a rotating dairy free option available…and dairy free magic shell. Magic shell people! Your lactose-intolerant inner-child can rejoice! I loved that everything was local and organic or made in small batches. And the bowls and spoons and napkins were all compostable…because of course they were. This is Portland!

Also…they have a cool polar bear on the wall, which is great for photo opps…you know…the important stuff bloggers care about. I’m pretty sure the guy working when we went thought I was super weird for taking photos of everything. I told him I was a blogger, but I’m not sure he knew what the internet was so that was a little awkward.

I got the full-fat tart yogurt with local blueberries and a sprinkle of graham cracker. It was really good, but I think I liked Fern’s better…pistachio with gluten-free chocolate animal crackers. I’m a sucker for pistachio, so I totally snuck bites of hers.

After awhile she got wise to me and moved to her own little spot at one of the kid tables. Whatever Fern. See if I ever share my blueberries with you again!

All in all it was delicious…albeit a little pricey. It’s OK though, because it’s a special treat and I like that it’s a more virtuous dessert option, so I’m OK with it. I can’t wait to go again and you should totally check it out if you’re looking for a cold treat to enjoy this weekend. Fern gave it two thumbs up…or at least she would’ve if she’d been willing to set down her spoon long enough.

Eb & Bean. Do it.

Love and froyo,

  1. I love fro-yo! My favorite here in Central WI is Sweet Frog. It doesn’t sound as cool as yours but I do love my Sweet Frog. 🙂
