A Little Mother’s Day Magic

I’m kind of awful at actually using my blog to document special events anymore. I used to detail our fun weekend adventures and vacations here, but for some reason I stopped. Mostly I think it was just life’s busy-ness, but whatever the case, Mother’s Day was too lovely a day to not document. I have the worst memory on the planet, so it’s important to have concrete reminders of these moments, instead of just random photos strewn about in my iPhone’s camera roll, ya know?

We spent Mother’s Day with a trip to Cannon Beach, here on the Oregon Coast, with our good friends John & Dana and it was an absolutely perfect day and definitely the best Mother’s Day I’ve had to date. I mean, I’ve only had three…but still. It was pretty freaking fantastic.

The weather was pretty perfect for the Oregon Coast. 60’s and cloudy with a few sun breaks here and there. We’ll take it, cause hey! At least we weren’t wearing parkas (but seriously…I’ve been to the beach while wearing a parka before. Non-Oregonians totally don’t understand).

No matter the weather, Fern is always game for a little splashing in the ocean. There have been multiple times when it’s been totally freezing and she runs in fully clothed anyway, so now I just embrace it and put her in a swimsuit from the get-go. It may look a little crazy, but the girl doesn’t care, so I figure…why the hell not? I feel like that’s how life should be lived anyway…with plenty of “why the hell not”s.

It should be noted that this trip marked Clive’s first proper trip to the Oregon Coast. We came once when he was 2-months-old, but he was still pretty much a blob at the time, so I think this is his real first time. Kind of funny, because Fern’s first beach trip we were also accompanied by John & Dana. I guess the beach is our place now and they must help christen all of our future offsprings’ beach trips with us. It’s officially tradition.

Anyway…when it comes to beaches, Clive is still pretty skeptical. He super hates the water, but at least he doesn’t discriminate and hates all water equally. Ocean, lake or bath water…it’s all the same to him and he abhors them with matched vigor.

But sand? Well, sand is totally this kid’s jam. He really seemed to enjoy having me bury his feet in it and he also thought it was quite tasty as well.

This is why we love our Dana. Always a good time that girl.

Oh yeah! And look! We have a dog! We actually brought her to the beach with us for the first time in a million years. I didn’t really want to because riding in a car with the smell of a stinky, wet and salty dog (+ dog hair EVERYWHERE) didn’t exactly spell Mother’s Day magic, but I’m glad we took her. She was blissed out on the ocean breeze.

Aaaaannnnd…champagne flight. Because I freaking love champagne. I probably should’ve stopped after those first two, but having a day buzz is totally allowed when you’re a mom and it’s Mother’s Day. Right? Right.

Our rag tag crew. Bright sun squints + something apparently super interesting on the ground, but goofy faces and all I love this photo, because I love the people in it.

Thankful for these babes that made me a mama. I am blessed beyond measure to be theirs.

Also, my husband totally spoiled me with quality time and fun and made this day so magical. I can’t even begin to say how thankful I am to get to do life and raise babies with him.

Hope you all had the loveliest Mother’s Day…celebrating and being celebrated!

  1. Beautiful photos of a beautiful family! Love that you even brought your furry baby.
Also: “Why the hell not?” I need to ask myself that more often. Great question 🙂

  2. Looks like a fantastic day! Happy belated Mother’s Day to you. 🙂

  3. Lovely pics!!.., I need to know where your sweater came from .,,, it’s fab!!!! Xx

  4. Look at you guys! You have a beautiful family and I love your style. It would be fabulous if you would do more style posts! I seriously don’t think there are enough fashion bloggers who are the same size as me and I get discouraged having to choose between the size twos and plus size bloggers because I’m neither. Sometimes I just really want to see fashionable women who are parents and professionals and still look put together (which you always do).

Nothing wrong with day drinking, champagne/sekt cocktails are some of my favorites.

    • @Sara – I’m seriously so terrible about taking photos of my outfits, but I would really like to start doing it again, because I agree…dressing an average body can be a challenge and disappointing when you don’t see how to do it as often. Adding it to the priority list :).
