What’s Your Type?

Something you should know about me is that I am a sucker for any kind of quiz. Buzzfeed’s “Which Disney princess are you?” (apparently I’m Tiana) or “What was your high school stereotype?” quizzes suck me in every time. When I was a teenager, I would spend hours lying on my bed taking the quizzes in Seventeen and YM. If you remember YM magazine then I think we just became best friends.

In addition to my love of quizzes, I also adore finding out about people’s personalities. I have taken the Myers Briggs personality test at least 5 times. I think it’s fascinating to read the results, although I’ve never really felt like my personality type description really rang true for me. Every time I’ve taken the test in the past it’s said I was an ENFJ, and while some parts of the personality type sounded like me, there were parts that were really inaccurate. The last time I took it, the first line of the description was, “wonderfully sunny and cheerful disposition”. I read it to Craig and we had a good laugh over that one. I mean, I’m not a Debbie Downer or anything, but “cheerful” and “sunny” are not words I would use to describe myself…I’m a bit too snarky for that.

Because my description hasn’t seemed super accurate for me, I wondered if maybe I was in fact an INFJ since I only make it into the Extraverted category by a little bit, so yesterday I decided to look up the description of what an INFJ is like. I stumbled upon this website called 16 Personalities where all the types are listed. After reading INFJ’s run down I was sure that wasn’t me either. Then I noticed that the site offers a quiz to determine your personality type, so I decided that even though I had already taken the test elevendy billion times, I would try one more time…

And I’m so glad I did!

Turns out I am actually an ESFJ and the descriptions made me say “Ahhh! That makes so much sense!” over and over. I also learned that I share this personality type with Monica from Friends which seriously makes so much sense. I think the thing that is different about this test perhaps is that it lets you rank the degree of “true-ness” or “false-ness” for each question you answer (i.e. “I love change and adapt very easily to new situations.”). There’s a scale and you can mark how true or how false the statement is for you. The tests I’ve taken before mostly required black and white yes or no answers.

It was so accurate that I decided to make Craig take it too. We thought he was an ESTP before, but it turns out he’s actually an ESTJ and reading the description was seriously scary accurate and actually really insightful to read for both of us.

The thing I liked most about this test was that the descriptions were super detailed. There were even categories about each personality type in various contexts (i.e. parenthood, relationships, friendships, work, etc…).

Anyway, this is basically just my PSA for the day that you should totally go take this test if you don’t know what yours is or if you’ve never really felt like your description fit you. OR…at least go read up on the description that you know already fits you and read up on it!  I feel like it would be so great if everyone just walked around with their personality type tattooed on them so we could all understand each other a little better. Haha!

Happy Monday friends!

P.S. I’d love to know what your “type” is, so let me know in the comments!

  1. Kilee VanGundy says:

I am an ISFJ and it describes me to a T.

  2. So I recently learned that the Myers-Briggs test is kind of a myth. Like, it isn’t based in any actual science and isn’t any better than the personality tests in Seventeen or YM. Still fun to take, but maybe not anything to make any big decisions based on.

  3. I love taking quizzes & such as well. So much fun to see who the quiz thinks you are. Tee hee!

By the way, we are now BFFs – I had a subscription to YM (Young & Modern)! 🙂

  4. ENFJ!

    J all the way!

  5. ESFJ with Assertive (whaaa???)… So fun, especially learning other people’s!

And yes, Buzzfeed is so freaking addicting in its modern quiz fabulousness.

YM reference! Just dying laughing over here reminiscing 🙂

  6. Defender – ISFJ. I’ve never read something more spot-on about myself. Thanks for sharing; I might write a post about this, as well!
