Weekend Breakfasting

I am absolutely, 100% not a baking/cooking type of mom. Can I do it? Sure and I do out of necessity – I’m actually pretty decent when I try. But does it bring me a sense of fulfillment (or even just mild enjoyment)…not really.

When I first became a mom I felt like there was a laundry list of “to-dos” to check off of the “Official Good Mom Checklist” that I had created in my mind and one of the things on the list was: must bake. My made up list also included: must let children help with cooking and baking. Now if there is one thing I dislike more than baking, it’s messes. I mean…I really, really want to be that mom that lets her kids make a flour-y mess in the kitchen, but it’s totally not my style (honestly, the mere thought of it makes me shudder a bit).

Thankfully, over time I’ve come to the realization that my “good mom checklist” was completely ridiculous and that good moms all look a little bit different. I also decided that baking and making messes just isn’t my jam and that’s OK. You win some, you lose some. The problem is, I still have these unfulfilled, elaborate, motherhood fantasies about making delicious baked goods with my children, for special weekend breakfasts. What’s a mama to do?

Lucky for me Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls exist – a family secret passed down from my own mama who also has the same aversion when it comes to kitchen domesticity. They’re so easy to make even my three-year-old and her one-year-old brother can do it. It’s also so much less messy, that I am even willing to let them make them themselves. Also, there’s just something nostalgic about the pop of that can that takes me straight back to childhood and my mom’s own non-baking ways. She wasn’t a baker and I still have wonderful childhood memories, so maybe there’s hope for me yet!

Here is photo documentation of our recent weekend breakfasting adventures…

Clive was upset that he couldn’t just eat the cinnamon rolls immediately, so Fern had to explain to him that they had to go in the oven first, but that he would get to try one very soon.

In the mean time, he busied himself with baking his own little cinnamon rolls in his Clive-sized kitchen.
Frosting the cinnamon rolls was her most favorite part!
OK. The eating was totally her favorite part, but she loved the whole process and was so very proud that she made them all by herself! Also, can we just talk about the brother/sister sweetness happening here?! They are too much together.

And there you have it. How Pillsbury™ Grands! Cinnamon Rolls made our weekend much more fun – and much less stressful and messy!
Happy breakfasting friends!

  1. OMG I appreciate this so much! I hate baking. Too much precision, and being honest there aren’t many baked goods that fall into the healthy category (especially if you are a paleo and whole30 fan). My husband does all the baking in our house 🙂 I also consider it really letting go just letting my one year old play and throw her food everywhere at dinner time (shudders still included).
