"Can we fix it? YES WE CAN!"

You know you spend too much time with preschoolers when you know the songs and punch lines to children’s shows that you’ve never even seen. But I sort of felt like a female version of Bob the Builder this weekend, so I thought this title post was appropriate.
Two weekends ago Craig ripped out our old ugly countertops and replaced them with lovely black granite tiles. Do you have any idea what this means?????
NO MORE BURNT ORANGE LAMINATE COUNTERTOPS!!!!!!!
Goodbye orange, hello black, shiny loveliness.
Then this last weekend I actually got a chance to be handy too (hence the Bob the Builder reference). Usually when Craig does a project on the house I do my very best to help him (i.e. I sit on the couch and watch TV/read blogs while occasionally bringing Craig cold things to drink). But on this project I really got to help. We put up a white subway tile back splash where there had previously been dark brown faux wood laminate (yuck!). Craig was in charge of cutting tile and I spread the mortar and put the tiles up. The project is not completely finished. We still have to grout in between the tiles and put up the front counter tiles. We’re also going to paint the walls a beigey kind of green I think. But, for now here are some before and after pictures.
Here are the before shots from when we first looked at buying the house:
Here we are mid-project:

Sooooo flattering.

Here are the after shots:
Isn’t my husband so handy? I vote yes. I’m good at choosing husbands.

  1. Wow! You guys did SUCH a good job with that remodel! Those pictures of the orange counters definitely made me cringe – but it looks so good now!

  2. your kitchen is so cute! those old countertops look like my old kitchen floor! haha. anyway, i think it turned out amazing! you and your husband did a great job!!

  3. To keep your granite shining long lasting, you must be regularly clean up and roughly dusting of granite worktops. Do not use too much cleaner or soap, as sometimes it may leave a film and cause some irregular lines on worktops.

  4. chloe, i can’t even imagine having a whole floor that heinous color! honestly…whoever thought burnt orange was a good idea in the 60’s should be fired.

  5. Awesome, Lauren! What a transformation!
The subway tile + exposed brick behind the oven are my favorite parts. You’ve made the kitchen truly gorgeous.
    Way to go!
