family portrait.

I had been adoring the lovely little silhouettes I’ve been seeing all over the interweb for quite some time now, so I finally decided that if everyone else could make them, so could I. It was a super easy project and I already had all the supplies, so it was cheap too.

I think this could make a really great gift, or just something fun to have for yourself. Here is a tutorial if you would like to make your own.
SUPPLIES:

*Canvas *Modge Podge (matte finish)

*Black Paper *Profile photos of your intended silhouettes

*Acrylic Paint *Foam sponge paint brushes

DIRECTIONS:

1. Take photos of the profiles of your intended subjects and print them.

2. Cut out the silhouette you would like.

3. Using your cut out profile photos, trace profiles onto black paper and cut out.

4. Paint your canvas and let it dry. (*Note: my canvas is crackly because I started out with a touch up pot of Krylon paint in in a mint green color, but it turned out too light. So I painted over it with some gray acrylic paint I had and as it dried the mint green paint showed through. It was a happy, little mistake).

5. Using Modge Podge, glue your silhouettes onto the canvas and once they are affixed, brush a coat of Modge Podge over the entire canvas using a foam paint brush (you can probably use any brush but these are my favorite because they cover a lot of surface area) and let dry.

6. Hang up in your home or give as a gift!

Enjoy!
