my favorite thing about today #10

My favorite thing about today was that I didn’t have to cook dinner after work. BECAUSE… my crock pot did it for me. Well…mostly.
I don’t think I’ve said this on the blog before, but I am absolutely in love with my crock pot. Like…more than a friend. I might even marry it if it wasn’t an inanimate object and I wasn’t already married to Craig.
So I was thinking I should maybe name it…since, you know… anyone in a good love affair needs a name. I’m thinking June – as in June Cleaver, since my crock pot is kind of like a good 50’s housewife. I go to work and bring home the bacon while my crock pot slaves away in the kitchen all day to make sure I have a delicious, hot meal waiting for me when I walk in the door. Good idea, no?
Tonight June made me delicious beef stew. It tasted better than the picture looks.

Here’s the recipe, although I have to say it was kind of bland before I added my own spin on it. I pretty much threw in a bajillion things after it was dished up including: hot sauce, sweet chili sauce, salt, pepper, crushed red peppers, more garlic, oregano…etc…. I like spicy stuff if you couldn’t tell. Maybe the stew wasn’t so much bland as the fact that I like a lot of spice. I also didn’t follow the recipe exactly, and kind of just put in whatever amounts I had of the items in the recipe.
I also made “garlic bread”. If you’ve never used this Johnny’s garlic spread before you haven’t lived. OK…maybe you have, but I’m just trying to make the point that it’s awesome. It was one of those jumbo impulse buys that they suck you into by force feeding you free samples at Costco. I just put some of my heart smart butter (that Craig refuses to eat – oh well, more for me) on an english muffin and sprinkle on my Johnny’s garlic spread and broil them in the oven. Instant garlic bread.
Wow. This turned out to be quite lengthy for a “my favorite thing about today”. Sorry. I just love June so much that I can’t shut-up about it.

  1. that sounds nice having your meal all ready when you come home. i’d have no clue how to use a crock pot. i’m challenged when it comes to cooking. my meals mainly consist of lunchables and PB&J. it’s rather pathetic

  2. funny, tom and i made garlic bread last night, the lazy way. with butter and garlic powder – not so much. so, can get this johnny’s garlic spread elsewhere other than costco? 🙂

  3. i started out like that too, but seriously, all you do is dump all the ingredients in the crock pot, turn it on and leave. it’s like cooking for dummies. trust me…i should know…i was a horrible cook until i got married.

  4. i’m sure you can. i just haven’t looked since i still have 1/2 of the jumbo jar left! when i was looking for a link to it i saw that you can buy it on ebay or $11. what a steal! let me know if you find it elsewhere. it’s also really good if you melt butter and mix the garlic spread in and then put it on veggies to bbq.

  5. I just wanted to say thanks for all of your lovely little posts. When the day is done, and all is said and done, I can always count on you to make me smile and laugh( a much needed thing these days).I am simply amazed that the person behind this wonderful blog,is my lovely and beautiful daughter. You and Marley are hilarious. I love your cute little gray vans. I especially like that you gave me a chance to think back on the wonderful wall-to-wall pictures you had in your room as a teen-I remember that it was a great place to play I spy. Keep the special moments coming, and never stop being creative and sharing all of your wonderful ideas with us.

  6. what a cute name for your crockpot, i mean June, how clever. Do you think you can come up with a good name for my crockpot? I would love for you to name her before you return her to me.
