pretty things for a monday morning.

Mondays are rough….especially after a four-day weekend. So….I thought I needed a little something pretty in my day…….
As of late I’ve been quite enamored with vintage children’s illustrations. I would love to have a little collection of my own when I have my own kids one day. I may have to start keeping an eye out for some of these vintage books on my future thrifting adventures. I think these would also be lovely framed in a nursery. Here are some that I think are especially cute.

Obviously I’m a sucker for children’s books & my absolute fave is “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”.

What’s yours?
Wishing you a happy Monday!

  1. I remember a lot of these illustrations, I haven’t thought about any of these books in years. As a kid my favorite was probably Amelia Bedelia, we used to read it in class! 🙂

  2. ME TOO!!!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE kids books! I have actually started collecting them already! So far I have Cloudy with a chance of meatballs (best illustrations EVER) Where the Wild Things Are and a few other lesser known ones that I think are just too cute. 🙂 I plan to buy some christmas ones this year the day after when they go on sale and I plan to buy “The Little House” Its one of my favs. 🙂

  3. The Berenstain Bears were always a favorite when I was little, and as I got older I adored the Ramona Quimby stories. Still do, actually. I’ve been picking up lots of little vintage books for my daughters lately. You’ll find them in the strangest places, at the lowest prices! I just bought three beautifully illustrated books home for only 10 cents apiece.

Also, I wanted to tell you that I really loved your post yesterday. There’s nothing that I could add that wouldn’t echo what everyone else said (more or less) already, but I have been thinking about it today still and just wanted to thank you. I love positive posts like that.

  4. oh i love all these pictures! They remind me of reading stories when I was little. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day was one of my faves too!

  5. these are so cute! the “coal is in the hill” made me laugh because ummm that looks pretty flat to me… I had so many kids books because my mom signed us up for one of those book of the month clubs. They would definitely look good framed; great idea!

  15. I loved all the books that made you and your brother smile. One of my favorite books is The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White. I loved reading stories like these to you, Matt, and your Dad-great memories! I also wanted to mention how you and your brother loved the “Lauren and Matt” stories we told you-perhaps I should write that book some day and become rich and famous.(ha, ha)
