marriage: making it work #6.

On today’s agenda: awesomeness with Sean & Chloe. ย  Chloe Ashby is one of my most favorite people that I’ve never actually met. She’s hillarious and I live for reading about the adventures of the everyday variety that she and Sean have together. While these two are new to this whole marriage thing, I think they have a fun relationship that is real and never-boring. Even Sean and Chloe’s version of “boring” isn’t boring :). These two are a little crazy and a lot in love โ™ฅ.

What’s your love story?

Sean and I actually met in high school. We didn’t go to the same high school, but I was dating a guy that went to the one he went to. I think I first saw Sean at his school talent show. He was playing the guitar with his band. I thought he was so dreamy with his long hair and mysterious attitude. Anyway, I was dating his friend, and nothing really ever came of it. He says his first time he remembers meeting me was at a sandwich deli. He said he was incredibly intimidated by me. Anyway, we only ever saw each other in big groups of people. We hardly talked at all, even though we both just felt something about the other. Well 5 years later, I had just returned from Australia and had returned home to find that I no longer had a job. My sister was working at a mortgage company and told me to come apply. I got the job, and it turns out that Sean worked for the same company. We pretty much hit it off immediately. I was a little nervous at first, I thought he was going to be very uptight and serious about things, and that my craziness might just be too much for him. Turns out? We were perfect for each other. It didn’t take very long for us to realize that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Both of us had no plans to get married anytime soon. We were both actually feeling somewhat anti-relationship at the time. We always thought people were crazy for getting married after not knowing each other that long. But then we realized, that it is true what that say. When it’s right it’s right. You just know. We have never regretted getting married so quick. We feel like we have known each other our whole lives. We got married on Friday, March 13th of this year. So we have almost been married 9 months! Enough to make a baby… crazy! Sean is very hardworking and motivated. He is currently working on his degree in business finance at Utah Valley University. He likes the outdoors, big trucks, football, and pretty much any “guy” stuff. The funny thing is, he is incredible domestic. He loves to cook, clean, and take care of me. I think I picked a pretty good spouse. He on the other hand? He didn’t quite get the good end of this stick ๐Ÿ™‚ I work full time at the same mortgage company as him, and that is about it. I love watching TV, laying on the couch, and eating. ๐Ÿ™‚ I will cook and clean if I absolutely have to. I love going to movies, baking, and I like the outdoors as well! Sean skis, and I snowboard. We compliment each other very well. I couldn’t think of a better match for me!

Fill in the blank:
“The best thing about marriage
is ___________.”

Chloe: ย Feeling safe and secure about everything you do. Knowing that your husband loves you no matter what and don’t judge you for your imperfections. I love getting to spend all of my time with my favorite person in the whole world.

Sean: That your best friend is always with you. ย And the babymaking. ย Can I say that?ย

Fill in the blank:
“The most challenging thing about
marriage is __________.”

Chloe: Learning to not be selfish. It is not always easy when you want to do your own thing, or want your space. Sean and I were both pretty independent people before we got married. Sometimes we don’t want to do what the other wants to do. We just have to try and compromise and have a good attitude about things.

Sean: The mixing of two lifestyles. It is fun, but can sometimes be hard adapting to that. ย Oh, and PMS like Craig said.

Fill in the blank:
“My favorite thing about my spouse
is ____________.”

Chloe: He takes charge. He is so motivated and hardworking. I could list a million things that I love about him. But he is so protective and I love that. I know that no matter what happens, everything will be okay. He will take care of things. He is so well rounded that I feel like we could face anything that comes our way. Broken cars, flooding toilets. He can fix it all. I also love his mouth. He has the greatest smile.

Sean: Sense of humor. I love that we can tease each other and not get offended. (He also said “these are pretty cool too”)ย I am going to omit from telling what he was talking about.ย

What’s your secret to a happy
marriage and making it work?

Accepting each other no matter what. Being supportive of any decisions that we make. Yet also having the ability to call each other out for their crap. I think it is reassuring knowing that someone knows you well enough to be able to tell you when you are being irrational or out of line. Also, I think keeping things fun and exciting. I think it is important to still “date” even when you are married. Keep the sparks alive! Sean would like to add having patience and laughing things off. I couldn’t agree with him more. We haven’t been married for that long, so we aren’t necessarily experts. But we really think that having a sense of humor about things makes marriage much easier. If we were constantly getting offended by certain things, it opens the door for contention and that just leads to more fighting. Also, Sean is incredibly patient with me. I don’t know how our marriage could last if he wasn’t :).

Thanks for sharing you two โ™ฅ!
