adventures in thrifting.

Does anyone remember this movie?

My post title “adventures in thrifting” made me think of “Adventures in Babysitting”, which made me remember a “little incident” that happened back when I was maybe five.

So…apparently my parents let us watch this movie and there’s a line in the movie where Elizabeth Shue says “Don’t f*** with the babysitter.”  Well, it obviously wasn’t something my parents had planned on my little virgin ears overhearing, but it happened and they figured I would probably just forget about it.  Maybe the fact that they made such a fuss about it was what made the “F-word” stick in my brain so vividly, but whatever the case, the next morning at breakfast I repeated the line I’d heard just the night before:

“Don’t f*** with the babysitter.”

That was the last time my parents ever let us watch that movie.  Ever.  Like….even in high school.  I remember wanting to watch it and my parents sort of freaked out.  Kind of hillarious.  Anyway….that was a random story, but I just remembered it, so I thought I’d share.  So, anyway, on to the point of this post….

Remember  when I said I felt like having a shopping date with myself the other day?  …And then I proceeded to show you a bunch of super pretty clothes and accessories?  Well…sadly my shopping date was not as elaborate as my Polyvore perusing…BUT I did in fact have a shopping date with myself, except it was a shopping date of the thrifting persuasion.  Still good.

Here are some of my lovely little finds….

I also did a bit of F21 shopping on my lunch break today, but I’ll show you those finds another day.  I’m a total sucker for pretty florals lately…hence all the floral dishes.  Oh yeah….I’m also a sucker for pretty china.  Maybe I’m just a sucker :).
Hope you all have a lovely Thursday…only one more day to go!

    i love adventures in babysitting.
but, until i read your post, i honestly had no idea that that was a line in the movie…which is so funny to me.
i guess all i’ve ever seen is an old tv version my dad recorded on vhs.
    haha.

especially that stripey sweater at the end. 🙂

    L love that movie too!!
oh and I love your ring by the way!!
    lol I love everything….

On a different note I was walking down the aisles at the grocery store when I stumbled upon mustard pretzels…do you remember those? It reminded me of our days back at Grace when your mom would pack me a lunch too, Loved her for that:)
    Have a wonderful day

  16. good movie. good finds! i was on a floral fix myself a couple years ago and then my husband said we need to compromise. but my friends got some good floral finds out of the deal. i love the teal colander. very cute!

  17. You find such pretty things! Although, I think if I found the exact same things they would still look totally ridiculous in my apartment. You are lucky that you live in Portland where stuff like that is “cool.”

  18. what fantastic finds! i’m assuming you were pointing out your striped shrug and not your gorgeous wedding ring that you found at the thrift store 😉

I LOVED THAT MOVIE! how did i miss the f-word when i was a kid!?!? i really didn’t realize it until i got older … maybe my mom missed it too? happy thursday!

  19. awesome finds.

and p.s. you have really really pretty hair. i miss my long hair

  20. Those are all so lovely!!! haha, we actually just watched that movie a few months ago on our lunch break at work!

  21. wow, that is truly hilarious!
i remember watching the sandlot when i was about 7-years-old and the line “oh shit” (when the giant dog jumps the fence)stuck with me. i repeated it the next day and i don’t remember my mom’s reaction exactly except that she told me never to say that word again. but she still let me watch the movie. the only resemblance of the “f” word i ever used was flipping my mom off….i DO remember that reaction.

  22. Ah hahahaha! That’s an amazing story! I remember the first time I said the word “butt” in front of my mom. I was 7 years old, and I had just learned it in school that day, and I got in soooo much trouble for saying it.

  23. aw, one of my favorite movies ever! that and stand by me…. i miss the 80’s!

    great finds!
    just a tad jealous…

    happy thursday!

  24. i love all your great finds! and i love that picture of yourself you took with craig watching tv/playing video games in the background! awesome.

also? Adventures in Babysitting used to be one of my favorite movies! haha, i never even noticed it said that word in it. probably because it was edited out on tv or something! ha, that is too funny! hope you are having a great day girl! can’t wait to see your F21 finds!

  25. A Portland bloggers brunch sounds super fun! Also, I was thinking if you’re free on February 13th (a Saturday) we should hang out, and you should come visit our apartment and meet our (soon-to-be) new dog!

  26. I do remember that movie. I don’t remember that line at all. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen it though. Haha.

  27. with my soft pink obsession and flower prints it is all i can do to make sure our apartments still looks like a man lives here too. I love thrifting and have even started a weekly post about the treasures I find. check it out if you are interested. My fav is that stunning blue collinder! nice work.

  28. i love milk glass! that little vase is so pretty! what great finds you have! also going to have to add adventures in babysitting to my netflix i haven’t seen it in ages! xox

  29. i love adventures in babysitting. so hilarious. when i organized my albums by genre i had one punky girly rock section and i used that quote under the title :).

  30. Carol Vizcarra says:

i ♥ that movie. thanks so much for posting it! it really took me back, i have never laughed harder than with that movie. also, love freaky friday, but the Jodie Foster version, not the horrid LiLo circus.

  31. I loved that movie growing up, but I completely had forgotten about that line. I guess my parents just shrugged at it when we saw it, because I don’t remember them making a big deal about it. Another movie that makes me think of my childhood is “The Goonies.” Love that movie. 😀

  32. everything you got is really cute and pretty! i almost like shopping for housewares/decor better than shopping for clothes now that i’m married and stuff.

i’ve never seen that movie but it looks like something i would like….

  33. I’m so jealous of your thriftiness. And I maybe want to steal that cardigan. I love cardigans. Never saw that movie, but I totally read the books when I was little.

  34. You’ve got some nice treasures there, pretty lady! I’m a total sucker for old dishes, too. Whenever I see them, they’re like a magnet and I’m drawn to them; I can’t go home without them. I can kinda sorta justify it (if Chris happens to ask about them) because they look pretty in the kitchen cabinets with glass doors, so I’ll just keep on buying! Hope you have a good day!

  35. ohhhh I love all of the goodies you came home with. We definately need to make a date to go thrifting together soon!

  36. i lovvvved “adventures in babysitting.” My older brother still jokes that when he had to watch us or wanted to shut us up, he’d put that one. Me and my sisters would use the curtains in our room to pretend we were her in that opening scene. Thor… was that the name of the superhero in that movie? lol

LOVELY baubles! i love the clutch and the torquoise strainer espech.

  37. wait! WHERE do you live?! Not fair!
Those finds are amazing–way to go!

  38. You scored a lot of pretty things in your shopping adventure… thrifting is still shopping. 🙂 xoxo

  39. Love your fins!!!

  40. Oh, you found such lovely stuff! That blue collander is gorgeous. Thrifting is so much fun!

  46. Oooohhhh! What a beautiful adventure you went on! I love love the white vase and cup- -it reminds me of my Mommy!
