fake it ’til you make it.

Confession time…..

I’ve gotten quite a few comments since I started this blog that have complimented my photography skills.  While flattery will of course get you everywhere, I do feel like I need to let you guys in on a little secret.  I’m not that awesome at photo taking, and most (like 98%) of my photos are taken with my iphone.

I did take photography throughout all four years of high school.  I was the teacher’s assistant, learned how to roll film and develop photos and even toyed with going to school for photography…but realized it wasn’t for me.  Plus…these days most anyone with a decent camera and photoshop is marketing themselves as a professional…I wouldn’t stand a chance….but I still like to have fun with it.

Enter my new favorite iphone app that will help me “fake it ’til i make it”.  It’s called Camerabag.  And not only is it an iphone app, but it’s also available to download for a desktop computer (here).

This app offers one tap photo processing that includes the following 12 processing options:

*Helga (like Holga)              *Colorcross
*Lolo                            *Magazine
*Instant (polaroid)              *Silver
*Mono                            *1962
*1974                            *Cinema
*Infrared                        *Fisheye

I had some fun with a photo of Marley from this summer.  Here are the many looks of Miss Marley….

{Colorcross Marley.}
{“Silver”screen Marley.}
Doesn’t she just look so classic?  Ha!
{Magazine Marley.  AKA “Centerfold Marley”.}
{Infrared Marley.}
{Helga Marley.}
This one’s my favorite.
Fun, right?  The best $1.99 I’ve spent in quite some time :).  Do you guys have any photo tricks you use to make your pictures pretty?  I’ve love any tips….unless your tip is to use Photoshop because I sort of hate Photoshop.  It’s far too confusing.  Craig’s tried to teach me to no avail.  I’ll stick with my cheater short-cuts!

Hope you all have a lovely day!

xo

  1. Ooh, I’m so jealous, someday I’ll have an iPhone 🙂 I just use Picasa and love the warmify effect, whenever anyone looks washed out, it fixes it! And the best blogging tip I learned was uploading my pictures on Flickr first! P.S. What a cute puppy

  2. Those are fun apps… I will download them now. Marley is so cute.

    I use Photoshop. But I’m still learning the ins and outs until now. Happy weekend! xoxo

  3. i looooooooooove that app.
    seriously… lehi gets mad at me for using the iphone camera more than my canon. it’s just so handy!

  4. Um, I am WAY JEALOUS of that app! Every time someone mentions a cool app that they have for their i-Phone I find myself drooling just a but and sort of wishing I had one, hehe.

  5. Oooh I love such applications! They’re so fun.
    Long time babe, btw. How you been?

  6. I use picnic. And you can either use the premium function ( and pay for it) or the normal and use it for free… It´s quite great 🙂

  7. Awesome!

    I use picasa sometimes but it’s such a hassle getting my photos off the iPhone, downloading them, opening up picasa, editing then saving, so your app looks awesome!

  8. picnic is good! on flickr.
    and your dog is so cool with those shades! im surprised he let you put those on!
    i was in photograhy in school too! but only 2 years, yearbook.
    love the pics and i want an IPHONe!
    xo
    what weeke are you coming to cali????? so excited!

  9. oh nice! good post, I’ll have to download that app…. I have an iphone too and I use it for a lot of photos as well. 🙂

  10. Amazing program! thanks for sharing 🙂 I love digital editing, but I definitely don’t have photoshop ($$$$$$!) Or a fancy camera (I wish!) The quickest way to make a blah picture look professional is to increase the contrast level on your computer’s photo editing program (microsoft picture manager etc.) or on picnik. Then you can play with things like the color saturation, brightness, shadows, black and white, it is so easy but looks like major talent and no one knows you only use a regular point and shoot like them 😛

  11. p.s. would you say it’s worth $19 for computer?

  12. i heart picnik.com!

  13. Cute puppers!!! Thanks for the camera tip!!! I use Picnik or Picasa for most of my pics 😀
    xoxo,
    Lindsay

  14. I’d never heard of this program (i guess not having an iphone probably doesnt help!) but it looks really interesting.
    I use photoscape which is a free program. It’s much simpler than photoshop, but has still got quite a lot of creative opportunities. I recently discovered the colour curves feature and love it for giving depth.

  15. I love the first picture! Thanks for the link, I’m downloading it now.

  16. Nice blog : ) I am a new follower.

    Check out my blog as well when you get a chance.

  17. I was wondering how you got such beautiful pictures! I don’t really use anything and I think it shows, I think I need to try some new stuff out.
    Happy Sunday!
    xo

  18. That’s a great app. I use Photoscape (free software) that has tons of different one-click effects. Sometimes I like to give my photos a highly contrasted look, or an antique look. It’s so easy to use!

  19. I just posted about CameraBag! I am obsessed myself – and Helga is my favorite, too:)

  20. iphone has so many cool apps! I want one, but don’t think I could ever leave Verizon 🙂 I use Photoshop, but love all of the fun, easy websites that edit your photos with one click! And I know what you mean with all of the professional photographers. With the right camera and right editing software anyone can create legit looking photos. I definitely think it’s the content and subjects people photograph that makes them stand out. If I could afford to buy a nice camera I would totally claim to be a professional haha. I just think it would so much fun for that to be what you do for a living. I would never get sick of my job! 🙂

  21. i like the magazine one and the last one… marley is a cutie that’s for shiz!
    hope you’re feeling better today and the stomach bug you had on friday is completely gone!
    i use picnik but you already knew that.
    enjoy your sunday my laurby!
    xo. thanks.
    xo. thanks.
    mucho love.

  22. I have to say its nice to know I’m not the only posting pictures from my phone

  23. photoshop is such a great tool, only if you are invested in it. i think it’s one of those things that you either like it or not. i don’t. this is why i love black and white photos {and it makes my laziness less obvious, but b&w are really pretty, classic and nostalgic}. anyway, i love picnik. i think they have the some of the stuff that you listed for your iPhone apps. it’s actually pretty cheap to upgrade with to the premium service for $24.99/mo. i have a nikon slr camera and it came with a decent photo editing software, but it’s so technical just like photoshop, so i’ve never really used it! i like the idea of cheating 🙂 happy sunday!

  24. Sorry, I’m a Photoshop gal! Josh taught me some basic touch-up tips, but I still have a lot to learn. Photoshop is definitely overwhelming!

  25. oh my gosh! i want that. i am super addicted to photoshop. love it. my fav little trick can be downloaded at http://www.poladroid.net and you drag pics to it and it makes them polaroids! way fun.

  26. awesome app! all i do is occasionally up the brightness/contrast with the photo manager that came with my computer…nothing fancy…i, too, have a disability with photoshop (or any other kind of photo edting software outside of picnik).

  27. This app is downloading on my phone right now and I’m excited! 😀 Thanks for sharing love!

  28. THANK YOU for the tip 🙂 i love using rollip.com! they use to have a polaroid option but for not anymore (boo!) but they have really neat easy color filters/enhancers.

  29. I love photography too & always love trying out new apps. and programs!! Thanks for sharing your lil secret!! =)

  30. ummm amazing. im going to go buy that right now. best idea ever. thanks so much for the best tip ever. you are phenomenal!
