valentine’s day is for lovers.

Valentine’s Day is for
LOVERS.
Some people hate Valentine’s Day and dismiss it as nothing more than a Hallmark holiday, created by greeting card companies to trick people into spending money on chocolates, flowers and pointless stuffed animals.

While I would have to agree about the pointless stuffed animals (I am a serious stuffed animal hater….aside from these and these – which aren’t even really stuffed animals – and a few select others), I still love Valentine’s Day.  Hence the reason I did a bit of decorating around my house (see photo above).  I’m sort of a sucker for an excuse to decorate.

Here’s a bit of V-Day inspiration for you…..

  1. awww yay I love Ugly Dolls! 🙂 I have 9, but I need moreeee! x

  2. Aw such lovely Valentine inspiration!! Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays. I think I just adore the idea of a holiday centered around love. And there is so much love in the world so it’s a wonderful thing to celebrate!

  3. you hate stuffed animals? I love them! They´re a bit of childhood with soft skin and sooo cudly!
And a great comforter and pillow 😀
The Heart Pillow is great… maybe I should try to make one for me and my boyfriend 🙂

  4. my boyfriend was going to try to fly in from rome this weekend, but buying tickets a just a week ahead is prohibitively expensive. so we might have to postpone for a couple of weeks and have our own, belated v-day. might be for the best: v-day comes after my first week teaching english in a school to a bunch of little spanish children! i’ll probably be too exhausted to do anything!

  5. I agree with your Vday philosophy…it is possible to overkill (ummm like my ex-bf who I dumped a week later) but still super fun! Ben is taking me to a B&B in Lancaster County, PA I am SO EXCITED! 🙂

  6. I love the pillows especially!!! And the garland!! Wish I had a sewing machine now…

  7. We don’t have any huge plans for V-Day – just making breakfast together, cuddling on the couch and watching movies.

  8. I am in love with the rose bud earrings and foxy valentines! Too cute 🙂

  9. cute post! :]

  10. I hadn’t thought much about it, but this is an inspiring post! I’ll have to see what I can come up with. Thank you for all the ideas!

  11. I love Valentine’s Day this year, it’s a little weird how much. Red & turquoise are one of my favorite color combinations, if only we were getting married in the summer.
    Have a great weekend!!!

  12. Love the turquoise and red, your cute decorations, and those earrings! Hope you have a great weekend!

  13. no big plans for me – we like the celebrate the day AFTER valentine’s to wait for all the crowds to be gone!

    i LOVE that thumbprint locket!!

  14. oh my gosh!!! I just found your blog and I love it!!!!!! Love all the pictures you posted! I’m not a fan of stuffed animals either. I’m a new follower 🙂 You can find my blog here: http://www.bearypixie.blogspot.com/

Hope you will check it out 🙂
    xoxo,

  15. Such cute items and decorations! We’ll be in Mammoth skiing/snowboarding, so no decorations for us. Although I was so tempted to by a heart wreath the other day! I want that tree/customized pillow even though it doesn’t “go” with our stuff. So adorable!

  16. Lauren… I was just saying the other day that nothing says I love you than crazy and a bit scary… stuffed animals… I really dislike them. But, I LOVE VALENTINE’S DAY… I think the day is obviously just not for couples but a day just for LOVE… one of my favorite Valentine’s Day was when I spent it with my dearest friends, had dinner, and gave each other Valentine’s. Loved this post!! Hope your weekend is lovely!! xo

  17. i love the v-day inspiration, especially the love letter tags and foxy valentine. i honestly think v-day is overrated, just like NYE, with all the oobbeer expensive dinner packages. but, i don’t mind the thought and gestures behind it. did you know that i don’t like roses?! so, if someone has to give me flowers, it would have to be daisies, sunflowers or tulips! i know, weird. this year, we are taking a road trip to seattle/tacoma area with a group of friends, exploring the city for the 100th time and taking photos (this might be the push for my lazy ass to get the slr camera out) all over town. this year, v-day is shared with friends! sorry, this is supposed to be a comment not a letter! 🙂

  18. i’m one of those valentines haters (not cause i think it’s a made up holiday, but the day never went well), however i love valentine decorations, they warm my hearts.

p.s. teal + red = amazing. that dress is killer.

  19. ooh i love all your your pictures my dear! <33 i hope your weekend is fantastic!!

  20. i love all of this!
    such cute, sweet things. 🙂

  21. Cute lady! That’s funny you decorate for valentines day.
Love the red roses on the wood floor? Are they earings?
    Anyways. Cute.

  22. Holy hannah do I love you inspiration photo’s. You have such an eye my dear.
I say bahhh humbug to those Valentines Day Scrooges…
I love the day, and if I was not moving and packing up my house I would totally decorate my house like that one with a Valentines tree, how sweet is that?! I heart “I love you” day!

  23. i’m in LOVE with the tree pillow!!!! i want one!

last year for valentines we danced in our undies (after a pizza and wine dinner AT HOME) and were in bed by midnight. It was bliss 🙂 and i wouldn’t mind doing that again except this is our first year as engaged people.

he was talking about taking the train to DC for a night but i suggested a bed and breakfast in our local area (since i’m fairly new and it’s a charming town). I think that’s what we’ll do 🙂 i’ll let you know.

VALENTINES DAY IS FOR LOVERS! agreed 🙂

  24. girl, i LOVE the valentines day tree!
    that is the cutest thing.
i wish i had a white christmas tree. perhaps, next year? 🙂

    have a wonderful weekend!

  25. aw love all these things! I love Valentines Day and I even did when I was single. It’s such a great holiday that celebrates love for all the people in your life. My family has always had a little celebration. And I love all the sweets 🙂

Matthew and I are going up to see my cousin in San Francisco. It will be fun to be back up there even if it’s just for a couple days! I’m dying to get back to my favorite sushi restaurant haha I’m thinking we’ll go twice 🙂

  26. LOVE the earrings and the necklace. I want. 🙁
Be my valentine this year? 😉

  27. These are beautiful! Just found your blog… it’s great! 🙂 I’m going to do Fill-it-in Friday a day late, but it just seems so fun! 🙂

  28. So cute!

  29. gorgeous!!! 🙂

    xo,
    Cat

  30. i love the blue mixed in with all the normal pink and red. makes the holiday seem less.. icky/commercial, and more cute/endearing.

&& yea, i totally cant handle being pinned down. no play wrestling for me either.

  31. I love the cute little mailbox!! post a how to please?

  32. I’m loving that heart pillow and also the garland. The garland looks pretty easy to make, I wonder about the pillow?

  33. oh my goodness how can you hate stuffed animals?? they are so cute, soft, pinch-able, squishy, sweet and all that good stuff… ^_^

    xoxo
    Olivia

  36. some parts of valentine’s day are silly (stuffed animals, as you mentioned) but how can you not get excited about a celebration of love (and chocolate!)

i ordered my bf a handmade tie for valentine’s and am making little cards this week! i’m also crossing my fingers for an indian feast this weekend!

  37. now that is what i call valentine’s day inspiration! kiwi and i always make each other valentines mix tapes. they are my favorite.

i bought a few terrariums from tortoise loves donkey and they are just as awesome as in the photos… maybe i’ll turn mine into valentines this year!

  38. i love vday!
i am going to have a picnic/ campout on the big day and take lots of photos!
i love the finger print locket. i want!
oh and i have heart garland everywhere. see my flickr page. but shhhh thats one of my 2 things i love around my home photos for tues:)
cant wait for tues by the way!!! we should have a theme for that day!!!

  39. I love all your finds! I have no idea what we are going to do for Vday. I want to do something fun, but not cheesy. 🙂 Or we just will rebel and not do anything. 😛

  40. Chris and I don’t really go crazy with Valentine’s, and we don’t spend too much on each other, but my absolute favorite part is making him a Valentine’s card and getting one that he made. They’re so sweet and thoughtful.

I love that itty bitty plant with the love tag. I’m going to check it out right now!

I hope you’ve had a good weekend (and I like your Vans)!

  41. Love it! I actually made hear garland from magazines this weekend before I even saw this picture!! SO great!

  42. gosh i am so behind! seriously, i have been sick this weekend, and then i come to your blog and you have 3 new posts! i have hardly been on the internet this weekend. boo.. anyway, i love all of these pictures! so cute!! i like valentines day. sure, there were some years when i hated it..it was usually because i was pissed at boys and blah blah blah. but i still enjoy it. it is much better than a hate day. that is for sure
    🙂

  43. i ♥ valentine’s day too! mostly because i have a hubby to spend it with!

we are going to grand rapids — the city where we got engaged three valentine’s days ago. we plan to dine, ice skate, sip hot lattes, peruse record stores… can’t wait!

hope you have a fantastic valentine’s day!

  44. i’m hard at work on my book for Damir for valentines day.

and by the way, i hate stuffed animals too…EXCEPT my bunny/alien that damir brought me from the beijing olympics 🙂

  45. I am OBSESSED with the terrarium!
I also went ahead and gave you the best blog award on my blog. Thank you for being so dang cool!
