i’m kind of a stylist.

Being a stylist is something
I’ve always kind of done.

I’ve always loved styling outfits, parties, table settings, little vignettes on display shelves.  When I was in college I lived in a house with 50 other girls who would stream into my room on the day of special events to borrow accessories and solicit my opinion of their ensembles.  This is something I love.  But, only in the past couple of years did I discover that there’s an actual profession for this as a stylist and that it’s something right up my alley.

Here is my first “actual” styling job.  My friend Jamie and her husband Matt wanted to recreate their wedding photos in a stylized way (they hadn’t gotten many good shots on their big day 3+ years ago) along with some just for fun photos.  We sat down and came up with a concept that would be cute, but also capture their personalities as a couple and what emerged based on their love of reading, coffee and classic style was:

“Vintage Book Nerds”
{Photos by Ali Lavin}
{Wardrobe and Prop Styling by Me }

(Feel free to share these photos, but please give credit where credit is due.)

Hope you enjoyed these photos!  It was so much fun having creative control with this shoot – everything from the floral arrangements, locations and outfits to giving my friend Matt a pre-shoot haircut :).  Thanks Matt & Jamie for asking me to be your stylist!

  32. Lauren! I can’t pick which one is my favorite. I love the one with the backlit sun because it’s all grainy and her freckles make so many little dots it’s just magical! … and the stumptown one because it’s so portland! … and the one with the book-step-stool.
