my favorite thing about today #52.

My favorite thing
about today was….

Getting to do “wifey” things at home.

I’ve had a four day weekend and I got so much done and was super domestic!  Monday I went to Zumba and then grocery shopping with my friend Jamie (and FYI: shopping with a friend is 8,000 times better than going it alone), came home, cleaned the house did some laundry.  Then I made rosemary & feta stuffed chicken for dinner with these coconut chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  I even had French bread with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette ready as an appetizer when Craig came home from work.  Then after my internship today I came home and made shrimp skewers and garlicky green beans with summer squash and blackberry cobbler for dessert.  The cobbler was supposed to look like this:

But….it ended up being super soupy, so it was more like a blackberry cobbler milkshake.  Instead of topping the cobbler with ice cream I topped the ice cream with cobbler and it was fabulous.  I did however learn a valuable lesson:  when making cobbler, DON’T USE FROZEN FRUIT.  That’s what led to the soupy mess.  But, if you are wanting a blackberry cobbler milkshake, then by all means the frozen fruit is the way to go :).

I wish I didn’t work sometimes.  I mean….not that I want to stay home and do nothing all day, but if I didn’t have to be stuck at work for 10 hours every day, I’d have so much time to do things I enjoy.  I’d love to do odd little projects and creative things and make yummy meals every night and bake treats and clean my house.  I would love to be a housewife.  But, even if I don’t get to do it every day, I had fun playing house wife for a couple of days at least :).

  1. I’m a housewife and it’s not as fun as it seems! Yes, I have time to do things I love, but since I have SO much time to do them I either put them off or finish them right away and then I don’t have anything to do but sit around!
    Your meal sounds delicious!

  2. Oh my….I’m just want to eat it all! Blackberry Cobbler Milkshake…yes, please?

  3. oh I so feel you Lauren, sometimes I really wished id int work either, not that Im not grateful of course I have a job etc etc nut you know …

  6. I feel so much more accomplished (and refreshed) when I have a day off to get things done and play in the kitchen.

  7. I’m so glad you had a few days of this….I love days when I can have a wonderful dinner prepared!!

  8. i’m with you on being a housewife!! i’m not ashamed to say that i love being domestic. the day job definitely gets in the way of doing all the things i want to do!

  9. Seriously such a sweet post (no pun intended!) so happy to have found your uplifting blog today!

  10. aren’t wife days the best. I love the feeling of getting to work on things you love.

  11. Yay, I love doing wifey things as well =-)

  12. Hi Lauren – long time reading, I think the first time I’ve ever commented… maybe the second time, haha. I’m loving your blog, and just wanted to suggest, next time you want to make cobbler with frozen fruit, try tossing the fruit in a bowl with a tablespoon or two of all-purpose flour. The flour will help sop up the juices when the fruit gets cooked, so hopefully you won’t have as much of a milkshake next time. =) Love the blog, keep up the great work, you’re so inspiring with your posts!

  13. you do zumba too???? i LOVE it. SOOO fun and such a good workout!

  14. I’m right with ya on the not working thing! I would love more than anything to just be able to volunteer my time to organizations that are important to me… and take off a day here and a day there to do little house and cooking projects! 🙂

  15. I did a post about cooking today too! Slowly but surely I’m learning to be a better cook, and it’s a win-win: I love the peace and calm of it, Radley loves the end results 🙂

Hope you’re having a good week!

  16. I looove staying at home and not working! I used to get so crabby when I had to clean up the house or cook in the evenings when I got home from work, but now I enjoy those things because they don’t take up as much of my free time anymore now that I don’t have a job. I feel like I can put more love into taking care of my house and husband now. Plus, being job-less gives me loads of free time for creative endeavors, such as working on my photography, and helping my parents with their antique business. As much as the feminist in me hates the idea of being a housewife, in reality I love it!

  17. I adore “wifey” days! They are simply the best! I hate that I don’t have a lot of time to have those days, but they are special when they come around 🙂

  18. I love being able to do wifey things but usually don’t get around to them.
Your blackberry cobbler makes me want to make cobbler, I haven’t made it in forever!

  19. I totally agree. It’s nice to have those days when you can do those things, but it’s also nice after a while to just go to work. Unless I had kids I think I’d get bored real quick of being just a house wife.

  20. Lauren! Just found your blog. I totally remember you from OSU way back in the day! I love how you channeled your inner food network star when you had a few extra domestic days. Love it! Everything you made sounds amazing, even the “milkshake.”

  21. I love a day to myself, a day to bake, a day to clean, a day to create. This quarter for me is INSANEEEEEEEEE. Thinking and brainstorming for our project … lets plan something for when I visit. Hugs and love lady!!!

  22. ooooo I want the chicken recipe!

  23. WORD sister friend I have been dreaming about domesticity…hopefully my dreams will come true! (Matt hopes so too)

  24. Hey, you wouldn’t happen to want to share that rosemary & feta stuffed chicken recipe, would you? 🙂 Sounds yummy!

  25. I can’t tell you how much I relate to this post! I used to work from home on Mondays, and even that helped a ton. Instead of chit chatting with coworkers, I could take a quick break to clean the kitchen or pop in a load of laundry. By the end of the day instead of spending 30 minutes commuting home, I had started dinner. I always felt so domestic when I had a glass of wine and an appetizer ready for when Corey got home as I cooked away in my apron 🙂 I would always joke that I was making the case to be a stay-at-home wife! haha he actually really likes the idea, but we’d have to change our lifestyle a lot.. which I’m not sure I’m ready to give up on yet. And plus, I’d at least want to work part time!

Wow. Longest comment ever. Haha Hope you’re having a great week!

  26. oh, thats perfect, icecream is my all time favorite, and if it is topped with cobbler, then it will surely give a min blowing taste. I will try that stuff too. Nice sharing dear

  27. Sometimes I too feel like I would want to be a wifey (aka housewife) but I think I would get sick of it. Maybe I only think this way because I detest my job right now. If I had an awesome job, I would leaving the cooking and cleaning to the hubby.

  28. I WISH I WAS A HOUSEWIFE.

  29. lauren–wifey things are so fun to do sometimes. am glad you go to get stuff done at home and feel good!

  30. Oh man I totally agree. It’s so nice when we get to do wifey things once in a while. But if we did them all the time we might want to work haha.
