valentine’s brainstorm.

We don’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day.

And….what I mean by that is that CRAIG doesn’t really celebrate Valentine’s Day.  He’s anti any holiday that requires gift-giving on a specific day.  He doesn’t like to be told what to do by greeting card companies…or something like that.  Also, our dating anniversary is on the 17th, so we never really celebrated V-day and celebrated our anniversary instead.

BUT….if we did celebrate Valentine’s Day, here are some of my gift ideas for Craig/things I’d want to receive…..

For Craig….

A Portland Timbers Scarf and tickets to go to a game together.
Nothing says I love you to a sports fan like tickets to a game.

A bottle of local Aviation Gin and a sweet little shot glass
along with a paid admission to go to PDX Cocktail Camp.

A coffee cupping date at the Stumptown Annex.

For myself….

Pretty underpinnings from Lille Boutique.
The lingerie here is beautifully curated by Sarah Wizemann
and I want EVERYTHING.
PLUS – lingerie is a gift we can both appreciate :).

A lovely floral arrangement from Ink & Peat.

Chocolate from The Meadow.

An overnight stay at The Ace.
Staying overnight in town would be so fun!
What are your V-day plans?

  1. Don’t worry we don’t really celebrate either since Chris’s birthday is 3/1. Being together is enough, and okay I do expect a little chocolate (like a $3 Theo bar or something) and we’ll usually have a nice dinner together.

We do have plans for the 13th to see Young the Giant in Seattle, so I’m lucky enough to spend Valentine’s weekend with 6 cute boys 😀

  2. Oh man! I love Aviation gin! My dad lives in southern Oregon and always has that or some kind of vodka or gin from a Crater Lake distillery. A bev mo down here in Norcal even started carrying it because I asked for it so much.

No plans as of yet for my Vday. Your brainstorm sounds pretty sweet though.

  3. Our dating anniversary is the 16th! So we dont really celebrate Vday either, which is better, we get to go out without all the other couples haha

  4. Beautiful gift items! I especially love the floral arrangement! <3

I don’t think I could live without celebrating holidays. I mean, I understand where he’s coming from 100% but still! lol I’m such a kid, I know!

  5. My husband is the same way, so we don’t really celebrate either, but your gift ideas make me want to.

  6. I don’t celebrate as much with my husband as I do with my friends and family around the country. I take time to send handwritten valentines. You can’t beat getting a little love in the mail. People can get pretty crabby about Valentines Day, but why complain about a day when sharing your feelings of caring and love is promoted. They try REAL hard, but no one is forcing you to BUY a card. Make one =)

  7. P.S. How awesome would it be if your job was to design valentine cards!?

  8. We’re not super big into V-day. If I happen to have the day off Dustin’s going to use a sick day and we’ll probably just hang out together, nothing huge.

  9. aw sad! it is a pretty ridiculous “holiday” but i love it nonetheless. and joel (hubby) actually proposed on a valentine’s day so we can’t not celebrate it. i do understand your hubby’s sentiments though.

  10. Your husband is missing out on some awesome Valentine gifts! haha. Even the ones for you. I think he needs to re-think this!

  11. We usually choose a nice dinner over gifts but I always have a hard time not getting Jus something.

  12. I bet Craig wishes he celebrated Valentine’s Day now! Great gift ideas!

  13. I love the idea of staying overnight in town! Every time I’m visiting the bf in portland & we walk past the nines I always want to stay there!

  14. You have such awesome gift ideas! Do you think you’ll actually go to the Cocktail Camp? I totally want to go!!

We’re keeping it low key. No gifts, we’re going to do a romantic indoor picnic 🙂

  15. Valentine’s Day in the Shultz home will include fried chicken and beer and Nacho Libre.

    a.k.a. classy.

  16. I’m surprised I haven’t thought of a bunch of these things! Maybe I’m not so good at Valentines Day presents either. Thanks for the ideas! I think I’m going to get the huz some coffee beans!

  17. Josh is always out of town working on vday so my friends and I always have girls night. They are my loves too!

  18. ohh i love your valentines day gift ideas!

i stayed at the Ace while i was visiting, loved that place!

  19. We don’t really celebrate valentines day either… our friday night date nights are better than valentines day anyways because we aren’t forced to pay a buttload for a tiny meal that we don’t really enjoy. Though I’m not really one to turn down a reason to celebrate, I kind of think valentines day is more for kids in school. Once Bennett gets older it will be fun to make valentines for his classmates and and all that stuff!

  20. I’ve decided that I do like Valentines day. Over are the days where I pretend I don’t care! 🙂 I love the pink and red and hearts and a day to let the love of your life know that you want them to be yours! Hallmark holiday or not…
Plus… we’re getting married two days before Valentines day this year. So we’ll probably always combine and celebrate the two together. Which is great by me!

  21. We don’t have any plans yet. We usually do something kind of chill since we aren’t big valentine’s day people. Although I did get him a present already, Urban was having a sale on the shirts that he loves. Thank goodness that was before I got sick.

  22. Go for the overnight at The Ace and bring some of that chocolate too. AND, you can have Stumptown too .. you know this though heehehe. Marc and I always end up nixing gifts on Valentine’s Day but always go on a mini adventure. Hugs and love my friend!! XO!

  23. We don’t really celebrate it either. Besides the fact that we don’t believe our love should be celebrated when someone else says so (that’s what anniversaries are for), it’s very close to my birthday and that’s just not fair for my poor hubby.

  24. I’ve never had Valentine’s Day plans. So one day when I do, they’ll be extra special. This year I’ll probably just treat myself to a good dinner or something.

  25. Oh, I SO want to go to that lingerie shop – so pretty! Every few years my husband and I treat ourselves to a fancy weekend in town. Since we don’t have to buy plane tickets, we splurge on a great room, spa treatments, and amazing food. I love traveling to new places, but sometimes it’s so nice to have a weekend “away” without the stress of the airport or a long car ride!

  26. I’m sure he’d be all for Valentine’s Day if you got something from Lille Boutique:-) We don’t go all out for Valentines, mainly just indulging in some good food and dessert. BUT it is our 1st married Valentines, so we’ll probably be a little lovey-dovey! xoxo

  27. I think I already told you this, but Jeremy’s feelings about Valentine’s Day are identical to Craig’s. He usually gets me gifts now though because I got all sad and upset our first year when I got nothing. So, he didn’t quite get the point, but I can’t complain about flowers and chocolate I guess. 🙂

  28. I vote that you do all of that anyway!
Sounds like a perfect day, even if you don’t celebrate it on V-day. Genius idea? I think so.

I have no clue what me and my hubby are doing this year. We have the night off so hopefully we’ll figure something out!

Have fun on that day either way!

  29. I believe in celebrating love every day 🙂 But what girl doesn’t like a bouquet of flowers?? My fiance’s birthday is the 18th so I’m looking for Valentine/birthday presents… since I’m from Portland too, these are great ideas! Thanks!
