a weekend of friends & food.

This weekend was lovely.

It was spent with good friends and good food.

Friday night we hung out with Chris & Becca and had fun staying up late and not acting like old people.  We just stayed in and ate Cha Cha Cha, but it was wonderful and relaxing, the perfect way to spend a Friday in my humble opinion.  Becca helped me do a bit of reorganizing/decor brainstorming and Craig & Chris played video games.  Oh boys.

Saturday we got to hang out with our friends Marc & Caroline.  They were in town visiting from San Francisco and we had so much fun!  Caroline and I met through blogging, which seems funny to me now, because now I just consider her a friend, rather than a “blog friend”.  Kinda funny how blogs can strike up friendships, but I’m so thankful for it!

I was really bad about taking photos of our adventures, because Caroline is a photo-taker extraordinaire (she takes photos of everything – check out her blog Coeur de La to see for yourself!) , so I just let her do her thing, but then realized I wouldn’t have any photos to blog myself….ooops.  Oh well.

We ended up going snowboarding….my first time on a board since our honeymoon to Whistler, Craig goes all the time, but I decided I don’t like being cold, so I hadn’t gone in ages.  I was a little nervous to say the least, but after the first couple of runs I felt much better and ended up having a fun time.  The weather was fabulous and so was the snow!  See how happy we are about this?  I’m so happy I’m making a scrunchy squinty face.  OK…maybe it was just bright out.

After boarding we took Marc & Caroline to McMenamin’s Kennedy School for burgers & beers.  They had an oatmeal stout that was a special small batch & it was incredible!  I’m not even a beer drinker usually and I liked it.  We played shuffleboard and the boys got real intense, but it was a lot of fun.  Afterward we hit up Mint 820 for cocktails (seriously….the Freestyle is the best cocktail I’ve EVER had & Caroline agreed) and then Ruby Jewel for dessert.  Yum and yum!

Sunday we met up & ate some more, including the best burger I’ve ever had in my life, but I’m dedicating an entire post to that later :).  We also had coffee at Coava made by a champion barista.

The rest of the evening was relaxing.  Went to Craig’s league football game, ate takeout and watched Big Love.  A nice ending to a full weekend of food and friends.

How did you spend your weekend?

  1. look at the art of that coffee!! Jealous! I want to be able to do that x

  2. I was far too scared to try boarding when I was in Colorado! Keeping my balance without my two legs being strapped to the same thing seems hard enough on a day to day basis!

  3. Aw what a fun weekend! We had beautiful, 75 degree weather here in Charleston this weekend, so I rode my bike and spent a ton of time outdoors. it was lovely 🙂

  4. wow that sounds like an amazing weekend 🙂 i love that when you SNOWBOARDING! how fun! My weekend = homework, homework, and more homework but what can ya do right? xo love the post and your pics as usual!

  5. LOVE Coava! I go there before we hit up soccer class every week. By far, the best coffee in Portland- and most knowledgable ‘baristas!’

  6. Seriously, that barista managed to put a heart in your coffee cream? Or was that you, oh clever one?

I just love small batch beer. There’s a place here in southern California called Brewbakers where you can brew your own beer and munch on fresh bread. Its too much fun and smells divine. My husband and I are also going to try their new place next door called Purple Feet. Its a make and taste your own custom wine place.

  7. Your weekend looks like it was much more fun than mine!

  8. Sounds like the best weekend!! Good food and even better company’s always the best!
    I’m craving some snowboarding!!

  9. Aw, I’m glad to hear you had fun snowboarding! I’m going skiing again in two weeks, and I can’t wait!

This weekend, I saw “I Am Number Four” in IMAX — suprisingly so good — and we celebrated my dad’s 60th birthday.

  10. I love all of what blogging does, especially the friendships that are made!

That drink is so cute, as is the first print up there! Love it!

  11. oh the memories – i used to go to mint 820 after blazer games when i worked there! i miss the cocktails!

    cheers to fun weekends!

  12. Such a great time!! I have a feeling my next couple posts are going to be about some of the same things being that you introduced me to one the best place to board, yummy stout, the BEST drink ever, an ice cream haven, and then the cutest street ever where we both stumbled upon the BEST burger … will post about this too. I have some great photos Lauren so feel free to let me know what ones you like and I will send them your way. You are such a sweet friend and love that blogging was the start of our friendship. Can’t wait for more snow/foodie/shuffle board adventures!!! Love U lady!

  13. So much good food! Makes my heart swoon:-) We almost went up to the mountain too! xoxo

  14. It’s kind of nice to have a weekend every once and while where you just eat out, and are out on the town having fun. I went snowboarding for the first time last weekend, and oh man, I did so bad!

  15. sometimes the thought of a cram packed weekend with friends overwhelms me (prob because ian and i are at church ALL weekend) but it always ends up being so much fun! like we try to not hang out with people because so much of ian’s job (and my job as his wife) is to be around people…A LOT. But it’s still so refreshing to be around your actual friends once in a while. this post is a great reminder of that! have a great week!

  16. how fun!!!! snowboarding!!!! i dont like being cold either. i like going in the spring:) i guess it is spring now huh?
is big love good? never gave it a shot!

  17. I can’t remember the last time I had an activity-filled weekend like the one you seem to have experienced! As a matter of fact, there are weekends we do absolutely nothing at all. Then that just makes me sad…like there’s no difference between the weekdays and the weekends, you know?

  18. What a fun weekend! I love when blog friends become real friends.

  19. This sounds like a perfect weekend. Aaron and I used to snowboard together all of the time. We haven’t bought annual passes the last couple of years because they are so expensive & we’ve been so busy- but it’s such a fun thing to do together. It makes the winter bearable & actually fun.

  20. Sounds like you had a great weekend and it looks like you are très happy snowboarding. Your smile is ridiculously cute.

Spending time with friends and eating at the same time is always a ton of fun!

  21. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you, my dear, have the best weekends ever!

  22. coffee art makes me swoon! the husband and i had a fun day trip to ikea to get some new decorating ideas and a desk. oh, and frozen yogurt too!
