pregnant cravings.

I haven’t had much in the way of pregnancy cravings thus far, but this week marked the first.
Sunday night when we went to dinner with Chris & Becca, she mentioned chocolate chip cookies and ever since I haven’t been able to think of any other food.  Chocolate chip cookies are a food group, right?
The only problem with this is that I don’t bake.  I actually kind of hate baking.
Here are the reasons:
1.  I have an ancient oven that never cooks anything quite right.
2.  I never read to the end of the recipe and I end up screwing the recipe up.
3.  It takes so long and you can’t taste as you go.
4.  If it’s bad you can’t fix it and then you just wasted an hour of your life.
But, I’d been craving chocolate chip cookies for three days, so I finally gave it a go with this recipe I found on Pinterest.  Apparently it was a NY Times best cookie recipe.
This is what the cookies were supposed to look like.
But, this is how they turned out.
OK.
Remember how I said I never read to the end of the recipe first?  Well, I failed to read the part where you’re supposed to chill the cookie dough for 24 hours.  I also didn’t have any pastry flour, so I used regular flour.  I also added cocoa powder and cinnamon – cause I’m pregnant and it sounded good.  I do what I want.  Anyway…despite the fact that these cookies were super flat and totally crumbly they were freaking delicious.
Pregnancy craving satiated.

  1. They look good to me! I have cravings like that all the time and I’m not even pregnant.

  2. The chilling part helps, and also it’s good to beat the butter after it comes to room temperature (something about the chemical structure…?), but hey, I did all that and my cookies still turned into little (delicious) cookie puddles. I’m blaming the oven.

btw, I’ve been away from your blog for awhile, and now you’re expecting! Big congrats!

  3. OH no hha at least they tasted good still!!

  4. Mmm…. I’m not even pregnant and now I want chocolate chip cookies!

  5. 😀 This reminds me of my sugar cookie episode!

  6. My mother’s cookies always looked like yours and she was also prone to random substitutions (even when not pregnant), but they were always my favourite! And really, as long as they taste great, they’ll do the trick 🙂

  7. Dude what kind of stupid recipe requires you to CHILL the cookie dough!? Isn’t the whole point instant gratification. Try mine… http://acollectionofpassions.com/blog/perfect-chocolate-chip-cookies

  8. What? Who chills cookie dough?! Weird.

  9. HA HA HA HA HA HA! Those are all of my problems with baking too! My hubs tried making us sugar cookies the other night… he added butter (not good) and baking soda instead of baking powder (officially made them trash can worthy!).

Both cookies look delicious! Happy Thursday! XOXO, Stephanie @ Blonde Highlights

  10. i think they still look awesome! and yummy. and now i want a cookie. ps, can’t taste as you go? WHAT?! are you not a dough/batter lover? i’d rather taste those things that cooking chicken and peas any day. because, you know…i always cook chicken and peas. what? that was weird. but you know what i mean. i hope.

  11. Mmm they look good to me. My current pregnancy craving is Wendy’s chicken sandwich and.. go figure.. chocolate chip cookies. But the last thing I want to do right now is bake. Maybe if the craving gets stronger.

  12. Yum! One of my co-workers actually made me cookies from that recipe for my birthday. They were fantastic.

I’m with you on the baking though, It’s just not my thing for various reasons, but there are times when I just want a cookie or brownie and I know that nobody else is going to make it for me. Those times are rare, and I have to want it really bad.

  13. Look good to me! I had a similar thing happen in my pregnancy…no cravings until someone said something about pancakes. I couldn’t think of anything for a week! I then went out to get pancakes for dinner and bought two orders extra to bring home. I had pancakes everyday for a week before the craving dissapated!

  14. If they tasted good, then that’s what matters! Happy the craving was satisfied 🙂
