anti-baby music.

I kind of sort of hate baby music.
It’s usually pretty obnoxious and comprised of a bunch of kids who can’t carry much of a tune, sing-shouting about farm animals and colors and other random silliness.
Lest I should sound like a baby music grinch, I promise that I sing goofy songs with Fern because I know she loves them and it’s good for her development. But, it doesn’t mean it’s all baby songs all the time up in here.
When it comes to mellow mixes, we stick with “grown-up music, which is just the way I like it.
So, today I came up with a sleepy time play list over at Disney Baby of some of my favorites grown-up sleepy tunes that are still great for little ones (but, I promise you’ll like them too!).
A little M. Ward, a little Civil Wars, a little Eddie Veder….
I’d love it if you’d check it out and then give me a few more suggestions to add to my list. Always looking for new tunes to shake things up!

  1. Oh what a great idea! I think this “grown-up music” may have a positive effect on Fern. I would totally go with classics like the Beatles, the Stones, Elvis etc. your list seems to be nice so far 🙂

  2. Earth to Calm, and Elusive, both by Scott Matthews are great ones, also To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra and for a bit of a show tune, Music of The Night from Phantom of The Opera is a fav in our house :o)They’re all also on my “Bath” playlist for those rare moments when I get to chill out in the tub x

  3. You know what’s funny? This post made me think of the Friends episode where Ross sings “I like big butts” to his and Rachel’s baby because it’s the only way to make her laugh.

I think as long as you keep it appropriate it’s all good.

  4. i love playing “adult” music in my preschool classroom. our favorite nap time mix includes, almost everything on your list, as well as Bat For Lashes, The XX, and Cat Power. Also, James Taylor is soothing, and some Feist, Florence, and Regina Spektor.
