life lessons for fern #7.

Dear Fern,

Today I am going to share a life lesson that is one of my favorites and that is…

Whenever you have a chance to dress up – take it!

Whether the “dress-up” occasion requires a silly costume or is a black-tie affair, embrace it!ย
One of my favorite things in life is getting dressed up and as such I really loved college. Not because I got dressed up in trampy Halloween costumes (I didn’t…and I also hope you don’t, but that’s another life lesson altogether…), but because someone was always hosting a themed get together. During the course of college I had the chance to dress up as a great many things… in red and green and a crazy Christmas tree skirt for a holiday party, as a pilgrim for a Thanksgiving party, a 50’s housewife on another occasion, a Bond girl (the fully-clothed kind), a ladybug, Maryanne from Gilligan’s Island, a punk rocker…the list goes on and on. Even after college I’ve always loved getting dressed up to go out on a fancy date with your dad, or even putting on my wedding dress with a group of friends, just because.
I really do hope that you love getting dressed up like your mama does, but even if it’s not totally your thing, I hope you learn to embrace it, because it can be really fun and a chance to explore other parts of your personality and just be silly.
I can’t wait to help you make your Halloween costumes and spirit week garb and help you get fancy for high school formals in the years to come! We’re going to have a lot of fun together.
Love,
Mom

  1. Such a sweet lesson! ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish I had more opportunities to dress up in my past, but my friends and I never did anything like that! ๐Ÿ™

  2. These letters to Fern are the sweetest thing! You are such a great mother!

  3. I think you should share pictures of these outfits on the blog. Just sayin’.

And Fern is looking pretty sassy in those sunglasses.
