life unstaged.

I don’t have the prettiest Instagram feed in all the land.

But, I generally stick to posting photos that are in pretty light and that have at least some element of composition to them. My photos are usually semi-staged, since I figure no one wants to see 20 pictures of Fern crawling away from me in a blur on our ugly carpet.
BUT…
Sometimes the unstaged photos end up being my favorites. Like this one.

This photo is terrible from a photography standpoint. It’s blurry and the light is ugly and yellow and I look like I haven’t slept in a week with no makeup on, but I still love it.
I love it, because I captured it during a rare snuggly moment with Fern. She is absolutely NOT a snuggler, but lately whenever we’re playing and I lay down in her teepee she can’t resist crawling over and climbing on top of me to plaster me with sloppy baby kisses and it’s just about the cutest thing ever and it fills my heart with joy.
And you know what? Moments like these, no matter how “unphotogenic” they may be are the best ones and the ones worth capturing, because they show that you were so busy living life that you didn’t have time to stop and stage it. Even though this picture is total crap quality, I know it’s one I will look back at and remember fondly.
So…advice for the day? Stop staging your life and start living it! Take photos of the real moments when you can, because those ones will be the best ones, filled with life and love.
Of course I’ll still be staging some photos, but I won’t forget to snap ones like this too…my absolute favorites.
Hope you have a lovely day!

  1. This is a precious moment captured.

  2. This photo is filled with so much love! It’s completely precious! I agree to leave the staging photos for when they’re needed – otherwise get out from behind the camera or phone and live! 🙂

  3. I love this and love what you wrote. In this fun world of social media we live in it is easy to sometimes filter and stage away real life and real life is what I want to remember and share with people 20 years from now. I was recently looking though old photos at my parent’s house and was struck by the fact that all of the photos were messy and unposed and yet my mom could remember the reason why she took every single one. I want to remember moments like that.
You are beautiful and you inspire me!

  4. Aw, that is a wonderful picture.

  5. One of my favorite pictures of Izzy and me is one that I didn’t mean to take… I accidentally snapped the picture. And I love it. Sometimes it’s the unexpected things that come out the best.

  6. Totally agree! I try to keep the grainy photos to a minimum, but some mean so much to me that I just have to share them 🙂

  7. Such a cute photo!
