my dislike of scrapbooking and my love of cool apps.

When I was in college I lived in an all-girl co-op house. That means there were about 50 girls in one house and that my friends is a lot of estrogen. For some girls this might have sounded like a super fun 24/7 sleepover – the ultimate college experience – but I wasn’t so sure. The thing is, I didn’t have any girl friends at that time in life. Actually I had zero girl friends…all of my closest friends were guys. After being burned one too many times by friendships with mean girls, I sort of gave up on them.

But, there I was…my first day at a big university surrounded by girls. After my parents helped me move all my stuff into my tiny room, they left and I cried. I wondered, “How was I supposed to spend a year with all these girls? How does one even make friends with girls? What do girls do when they hang out together?”. I was a little rusty.

I’ll admit that the first couple of days were a little rough, but then I realized that my roommates all seemed to share a mutual love of scrapbooking. Well, I had never scrapbooked in my life, but I decided that this was going to be my “in” – the secret to making college besties. I just knew that late nights filled with hot cocoa, shared secrets and scrapbooking were in my future…obviously  you can tell where this is going.

What ended up happening was this: 1) Went to the craft store. Dropped $100+ bones on scrapbooking gear (little stickers, special scissors, and ridiculously overpriced paper), 2) Planned a scrapbook night with my new almost-friends, 3) Realized I hated scrapbooking.

It was all too involved for me. I ended up using my scrapping supplies to whip up some pretty awesome cards (a much smaller time commitment which I am totally in favor of). The good news: I made good friends. The bad news: I still don’t like scrapbooking.

The better news? Disney has this new app called Story which is basically like digital scrapbooking. It’s super easy (perfect for scrapbook commitment phobes like myself) and a lot of fun. The app lets you drag and drop photos from your phone in the app and you can change out the backgrounds, colors and even add captions and video.

Here’s a little diddy I put together of our beach trip over the weekend…

  1. I used to LOVE scrapbooking, but it really is TOO big of a project, so I’ve been toying with the idea of selling a lot of my supplies. I still like making cards, so I won’t get rid of everything, but it’s a scary thought to get rid of the stuff since it’s so expensive in the first place.

  2. I feel like I’m not visually creative enough for scrapbooking. I just can’t make mine look as great as other people can. So I’ve never liked it. But this could be fun!

  3. I love scrapbooking, but it’s a giant time investment! I have to write down important things in a notebook to eventually scrap book them… probably not the best way to go!
