no longer a giveaway virgin.

So…I’ve made the big decision to lose my giveaway virginity.  This is my first time doing this, and I’m a little nervous, so I hope you guys will like it.  OK…enough with the subtle innuendo.

But seriously…I thought I’d do my first giveaway to celebrate all of you lovely readers who keep coming back for more (and to welcome the new ones as well!).  Here’s what’s up for grabs:

{This necklace I made.  Not from scratch, but from a few necklaces I deconstructed and turned into this.}

AND….
{Your choice of either this canvas or a canvas tote bag painted with your initial and the design below (you can decide once you win).  I was inspired by this one my friend Casey made me for Christmas, so I made a few as family Christmas presents this year and they turned out quite nicely.}

{And possibly some other small goodies I may throw in too.}

So…to enter, all you have to do is leave a comment (with your e-mail address if you don’t have a blog for me to contact you through).  In your comment I would like you to answer this question:  What was your favorite thing about this year, and what are you most looking forward to next year?

OK, so the only downer about the giveaway is that I’m only opening it to followers of my blog.  I didn’t want people to become followers just to get extra giveaway entries, so if you are already a follower, or read my blog and would like to become a follower (but hopefully not just to be a part of the giveaway) please leave a comment and put your name in the hat!

I’ll hold the drawing on Friday (New Year’s Day), because really…what better way to start out the New Year than with free goodies?

Good Luck!

*Note:  international readers may still enter, but will get the necklace and bag instead of the choice of a wall canvas, because it’s lighter/smaller and hence cheaper to ship.

  1. Hi Lauren! I am a follower and see that marking on the bag? It says L as in Lauren… also it stands for Leah. So it’s kinda calling my name. Hahaha!

My favorite thing about this year: I got to shoot international. Before I only shoot weddings in the Phil but this year I had a few weddings in the US.

I’m looking forward to shooting more weddings in the US or some other countries this 2010.

My blog is getthewordsout.blogspot.com and my email is kellz0505@gmail.com

My favorite thing about this past year (09)…..is honestly the friendships that I’ve made or that have grown. I had to say goodbye to a lot of goodfriends this past month, but I am sooo grateful that we were able to spend so much time together beforehand. I realized how lucky I am to have such wonderful friends!

For next year (10) I think I am mostly looking forward to getting to know myself more. I want to take more classes, learn to craft more things, scrap more and just spend time on me. I neglected myself some this year and I don’t want to do that in 10.

I hope you have a very wonderful new year!!!

  11. my favourite thing this year: im really thankful for this close fren of mine in melb whom i’ll address by the name H. the whole year hasnt been smooth-flowing for me. my family n myself have met with many setbacks this year and i am really thankful that H is beside me this whole while. she encouraged me when i was worried abt my bro’s operation. when i found out that my bf’s dad matchmade him with another gurl and when i realized that he lied to me & tried to cover up lies with other lies abt the whole incident, i was utterly heartbroken & it was H who comforted me thru that period and heard me pour my woes out. i wanted to share with my readers but my parents do ocassionally read my blog & i didnt want them to noe of the matter. so im really thankful to H for always being there for me esp when im most cranky n most needy. love u heaps dear!

what im looking forward to next year: graduation and a better year for my family. we’ve been really tested this year and i pray that God continues to watch over us.

  12. Wow! Thanks. mscchavez(at)gmail.com

In 2009 I crossed off two items from my goal/50 things I want to do before I am 50 – hiked the Grand Canyon and ran a 1/2 marathon.

In 2010 I looking forward to a book club my friends and I are starting.

  13. I love the necklace and canvas bag!

Favorite thing about this year: marrying my sweet husband on June 27!

Hmm… my favorite thing about this year… probably scoring really really well on the GREs, and the thing I’m most looking forward to next year, is starting Grad school!

My favorite thing about this year was getting married 😀

What I’m looking forward to the most about next year is just drawing closer to God!

  18. yay!! lauren! that necklace is awesome! you are so talented. i have been looking for a necklace similar to that 🙂 i love that you said you are no longer a giveaway virgin. haha that is awesome. you are so talented.

lets see, my favorite thing about this year?
well i would have to say getting married, and making tons of friends through blogging. seriously, it has opened my world up to so many different ideas and inspiration and i love it. i love all of the sweet people that i have met, including you! so much has happened in one year, and i am excited for what is in store for next year! i love you girl! hope you have a fantastic day!

  19. Hi Lauren! I’ve only read your blog a couple of times, but I’m adding you to the list of blogs I follow, because I appreciate your upbeat outlook, and a bunch of the upbeat family (related-to-me) bloggers have fizzled out on blogging. Just Katie…oh, remember me? I’m Katie’s (day camp) mom.

My favorite thing this year was backpacking in the Jefferson Wilderness with my sweetie-pie-husband after he recovered from cancer surgery. What a gift.

I am looking forward to losing some of the weight that’s been creeping up on me, and having a healthier, more fit 2010. Katie and I just started a little blog about that yesterday.

I’ve been trying to figure out what to write for my next post – I think these comments have inspired me. You should check out my blog and leave a comment when you get a minute.

  20. I love that bag and the necklace.
My favorite thing about 2009 was a lot of things but starting my blog and finding so many other awesome blogs to follow have helped me feel more comfortable with my current situation and happier in my life.
And I am sooooooooo looking forward to planning my wedding and getting married in 2010!!

  21. I love the bag! I spotted it on Apartment Therapy just last week, and now I’m seeing it in all kinds of places! 🙂

Hmm, this was a strange year for me. It’s hard to pick my favorite part- I guess my favorite part would be the times my family was in town visiting.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. Oh yay! I love giveaways, congrats on losing your virginity :).

My favorite thing about the past year was probably celebrating one year of sweet sweet love (what I call our marriage) with husband Zach! I know I could say that every year, but there is something extra special about celebrating your first year of marriage!

  23. OH, i missed the second part of the question! I’m most looking forward to my husband finding a full time job in the feild he graduated and hopefully getting a house!

BTW – love the necklace and bag, so beautiful!

  24. The best thing about this year was surviving it well, and getting through some stuff that should have been really really hard, but somehow wasnt.

    and

Both of my best friends are getting married two months apart from eachother, so I am so. so. stoked. for that.

  25. hello there. i’ve been mia from the blog world for too long. of course i follow your lovely blog. i la la love it. count me in. i loved spending time with my family in the snow and making memories.

  26. My favorite thing about this past year was seeing two of my best friends get married and celebrating my parents’ 30th anniversary. Love was in the air! This year, I’m looking forward to mixing things up with the possibility of a cross-country move!

Love your blog and love this giveaway! You are too cute!

  27. i would have to say that my favorite thing about this year has been witnessing my aunt’s amazing attitude as she fought breast cancer. i never heard her complain about losing her hair (which still hasn’t grown back, she wears a wig), how tired she was or how much her body hurt as she went through chemo and radiation. she just finished all her treatments and only has a body scan left to make sure the cancer is all gone – which the doctors are pretty sure it is. to me, this is a miracle! praise God!

we had a lot of ups and a lot of downs this year but ALL of it has been a blessing one way or the other!

also, one of my favorite things is meeting you… 😉 you’re the best and such a great friend!

love the necklace – beautiful job, lauren.
    and great first giveaway!!

    xo

  28. Yay, giveaways are fun!

My favorite thing about this year was definitely my honeymoon with my husband.

And I’m most looking forward to my family vacation to Playa del Carmen this March!!

  29. not sure if i qualify… i just found you yesterday through your love story and added you to my reader — but i am not an “official” follower… (i often forget to push that button on people’s blogs anyway.)

well, whether or not i qualify (and i understand if i don’t, being new around here) – my favorite part of 2009 was the overall feel i had throughout the year… inspired, more than years before.

i look forward to moving forward in 2010 with my photography and developing my inspiration into things that will inspire others 🙂

beautiful work on the necklace, by the way!

  30. Your comments always lighten my day!

Anyway, of course I’m going to enter your giveaway! That necklace is adorable. My favourite thing about this year is that I truly got my priorities straight with school. Love you girl!

My favorite thing was opening my blog. I’ve been writing privately for a long time and I was really scared to open it, but its been perfect.

I am excited for the New Year, to hold lots of adventures… because I have promised myself, I will take more.

  35. Lauren, that necklace is amazing! And it is a million times more special because you put it all together! Homemade goodies are the best 🙂

My favorite thing about this year? Becoming a confident, independent woman! This year was all about discovering myself and I really did accomplish that. For the first time in a long time and I can say, I love me for who I am!

  36. Tracie Peterson says:

    How fun!

Favorite thing about this year: Learning to Love my husband better (with the Lord’s help of course)

How the heck do you make the tote bags? How do you get the cool design?

  37. wow, this giveaway is so nice of you to do! i love the necklace and how special it is because you made it 🙂

my favorite thing about this year was getting to travel tons! i got to go to utah, london, paris, ireland, and northern california..and all with either a best friend, bf, or family member. i experienced and learned so much bc of it 🙂

    and i am a follower 🙂

  38. What adorable goodies! I’m so impressed that you made that necklace.

My favorite thing about this year was losing my job. No joke. I hated it, and it made me crabby all the time. It turns out becoming a housewife was the best career move I’ve made yet!

Next year I’m looking forward to moving, and to finally being able to save up enough money to go on an out-of-state vacation with Josh!

  39. This is so exciting! Ahh! You’re giving away really cute things. I. Am. So. Excited.

My favorite part of this year was definitely getting into my top college, even though it’s been such a hard semester, at least I’m at a place I love!

I’m excited for 2010 because my brother is getting married in January! I can’t wait!

  40. Oh, yay!!!! I lovelove giveaways! Because I get to see things that other people love and want others to be able to love, too! So sweet!!!

My favorite thing this year was getting married! I loved planning the wedding (even though it was insanely overwhelming at times) and coming up with creative ways to showcase our love for one another! I loved seeing each other all dressed up and surrounded by our closest loved ones! And I loved making such a special commitment to the most amazing person I’ve ever known!

Next year, I’m really looking forward to bettering myself and staying positive. I have a lot of goals that I want to accomplish, and I intend to have Ravi help me make sure I meet those goals! Being positive is a really hard thing for me–I’m a negative Nancy by nature! But I’ve really been trying to improve my outlook and really appreciate all the wonderful little things happening around me.

  41. Hi there! I love the bag design, so cute!
Anyway, the best part of this year was me finally buying a dslr camera (not the best one out there but alas, student!)!! Next year I’m looking forward to meee! because I think next year is a turning point for me, I don’t know why or how but I can just feel it and I like it (that’s a little strange isn’t it? haha).

I’m a follower! orangeinsanity at hotmail dot com

  42. I promise I didn’t become a follower *just* for the giveaway! 🙂 I’m just relatively new to your blog and have been reading in Google Reader…I think this might be my first comment! Hello!

2009 – I love the friends I’ve made this year. I’m feeling a lot more confident and life has “opened up” a lot, now that I’ve lived here for awhile and it’s feeling like home.

2010 – I’m looking forward to starting a new job and just living my life…it’s a good one 🙂

  43. Oooh, I love it! And your blog!

My favorite thing about 09 was marrying my hubby! We did the long distance & then living at our respective homes for almost two years and getting married was something we were reallllly looking forward to. And next year?? Hmm.. I guess it will be our first time really being adjusted to being married, so I’m looking forward to just having time together!

  44. aw great giveaway Lauren! You are so creative I can’t believe you made that necklace/deconstructed it from others.

My favorite thing about 2009 was that I graduated from college. And even know I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do it’s still an accomplishment that I’m proud of.

I’m looking forward to 2010 because I have so many good feelings about it. For one I better be getting a cute little puppy! sigh I want one so badly. My dog clock is ticking away 😉
    xox

  45. ooo, oooo, i want i want!

  46. okay, so i’m not entering the giveaway but you know i read your blog whether i comment on it or not 🙂 but i’d still like to answer your question 🙂

one of my favorite thing in 2009 was getting accredited by NAEYC. it was painful, and the behind the scenes on my part was not something i’d like to discuss and repeat – but knowing how high our scores were proved we are doing something right for the children and families that we serve.

in 2010 … i’m looking forward to just focusing on the children, families and teachers versus accreditation and paperwork b.s. but also creating more opportunities to give back to the community by doing more outreach through metro kids and jn east … and, my trip back home to the philippines in march! wahhooo!!

  47. I love that bag. It is adorable.
Best part of 2009: Europe trip to Sweden, Norway, and Spain.
I’m looking forward to graduating from grad school and getting a real job. Finally no more projects, tests, papers, or anything! Yeeessss

  50. wow i love your blog!!! and this giveaway!

definitely my favorite thing about this year was starting college. i have learned so much already and the people i have met have made such a positive influence in my life. ive made a lot of great friends this year!

next year i think the thing i am looking forward to most, is working to better myself. i know this is something i dont have to wait till the new year to do, but its something i am determined to really do in 2010 :]
oh and also… second semester of college! its going to rock!

    my email:

  51. Lauren you are so cute! i was so nervous about my first giveaway too, so i totally understand but don’t you worry- it’s a hit already and so lovely because they are made by YOU. i wish i was a craft goddess.

    those totes are LOVELY!!!!

my favorite thing about this year was finding the courage to quit what i believed was my dream job and finding one i absolutely love going to every day. It was a true blessing in such a scary economy.

The thing i look forward to in 2010 is in a few days i will be leaving my beloved TX to VA- and although i am sooo scared and sad to leave behind my family/friend/fabulous job… i’m moving for love and is there any grander reason to do so?

    xoxo i adore your blog.

  52. Lauren this a lovely idea!

My favourite thing about 2009 was my job. I feel so lucky to enjoy every day and what I do. I teach at an all boys school and they just bring me so much joy every day.

I’m really looking forward to developing my blog in 2010 and becoming a part of a blogging community. Also 2010 sees me fly to U.S.A for my first overseas holiday with some lovely friends.

Here’s to a wonderful New Year!

  53. Good question. As for 2009 I loved the fact that I became debt free. I paid every single person and credit card back. I owe no one. That will always be the one thing I will remember about 2009.

As for 2010 I am looking forward to enjoying my days taking pictures and the simple pleasures of the day to day. Essentially cutting back and enjoy this ride of life.

    barrigacindy@yahoo.com

  54. hmm, well I don’t use my google account to follow people – I do RSS – and I had already subscribed to your feed. Not sure if that counts 😛

But regardless, my fave part of this year was graduating from college. Not sure yet what is going to be awesome this coming year – hopefully travelling somewhere fab! 🙂

  55. How cute are you? REALLY CUTE.

Ok…this year was tough, but I think that is the best thing about it. I learned. I grew. I realized so much about myself.

Looking forward to moving to NYC!!

    XOXO!!

  56. This is so exciting! I love your blog.

probably the most not exactly exciting thing I’ve had happen in 2009, but maybe the most rewarding, has been blogging. I just started back in August and I’ve really started to love it and get the hang of it and I love reading other blogs and getting to know other bloggers and getting inspiration from them. Next year, I am definitely looking forward to graduating high school, I can’t believe I’ve spent 12 years in school and its almost over. Its going to be such a relieve but such a turning point in my life. I’m nervously looking forward to it.

I’m also looking forward to the giveaway and reading more from your blog!

    xoxo, Tarver.

  57. haha i love your comments. can i just tell you i am so the same about getting sick? i am like “YES! now i can take nyquil and not feel bad!” haha, you are my favorite. i love that craig finally put his foot down. i know that sean gets so frustrated with me, but seriously? who buys new clothes just to wash them? that is waste of water and frankly i just would rather save the planet and all that stuff…yeah…

  58. Hi there! I just discovered your beautiful blog! I love that sweet necklace + I also adore the tote! Hope you had a lovely Holiday! xo. thislovelycity@gmail.com

  59. P.S. my favorite thing about 2009 was getting married!! And for 2010, I am looking forward to BIG things for blogs, since print is becoming a thing of the past 🙂

  60. Hi! I’ve never commented, but I’m excited to enter this giveaway.

My favorite thing about this year was discovering what it’s like to be in love, a new niece in my family, and my obsession with owls 🙂

Next year I’m excited for new adventures with the people I love 🙂

  61. my favorite thing was probably starting blogging and I am looking forward to changing TONS of stuff in the new year!

  62. ok i could have SWORN i commented on this, i looked through and didnt see my name so if i already did and skipped it, then just delete this and roll your eyes and just say “oh nicole..” lol, and my favorite thing of 2009 was definitely at the end, getting engaged:) it was a rough year for our family but the ending turned it into a pretty good year!

thanks again for sending in your love story, everyone loved it:) xo! and happy early new year lady!

  63. ohhh I love this giveaway! how exciting! I have tons of favorite things about 2009… I have to say starting my blog was one, meeting my boyfriend was another and I have definitely become way more independent and confident this year, I guess that just comes with age… and this upcoming year I am terrified about because I will be student teaching… but I am so excited to learn more than I ever have before! I can’t wait!

  64. i love it!! i need more tote bags to use for grocery shopping and walking around the city!

  65. ohhhhh I love this! I’m a follower! 🙂

  66. awww that necklace is sooo cute! and the tote bag! perfect for carrying my books around campus 🙂

my favorite thing about this year is that i was given the opportunity to move to a new place for the first time in my life (for college – but i’ve lived in the same place since birth) and it is the so refreshing!

in 2010 i’m looking forward spreading love to those who need it and those who i need.

  67. Holy amazingly cute! I am jealous of your craftiness and instead of figuring out how to do it on my own, I will enter the giveaway and hope I win!

Hmm, my favorite thing about 2009 was graduating from college with my Bachelors, and the vacation we took to celebrate. I had a really hard time adjusting at first, but all of the free time has really opened doors for me and exposed me to lots of new things, it has expanded my horizons if you will. Alright, that was a little cliche, but for real, I have been able to fill my life with really positive things since I graduated. AND we went on an awesome vacation up the west coast to celebrate and it was amazing.
Thanks for hosting the awesome giveaway!

  68. How lovely of you.
I have been reading your blog for a few months but only just now clicked the following button.. I just have all my blogs in my favourites and I flick through them when I have spare time.

    🙂

  69. oh these are so adorable! i am in love with the necklace!!

i have a couple favorites from 2009: starting my blog, running my first half marathon, {finally} going to hawaii with the family, and becoming a yoga teacher!

as for this next year i’m excited to: go to paris and start applying to colleges!

this year with be an amazing one 🙂 thanks for being so sweet and hosting this giveaway and happy new year!

  70. what a wonderful giveaway – this necklace is beautiful!! I am actually an international follower but would have definitely chosen the bag anyway – so cute!

as for my favourite thing of this year, it would have to be the birth of my nephew. he is this gorgeous new addition to the family that seems to have brought out the absolute best of all of us. not only is he beautiful (my brother is VERY english and my sister in law is VERY brazilian so he’s a interesting mix), but he is just delightful to hang out with. i’m obviously bias, but he seems so bright already – he’s so alert and so nosey!!

the thing i’m looking forward to most next year? has to be my wedding. standard answer for an engaged blogger, i know, but it really will be the most wonderful, exciting, nerve-wracking, emotional day of my year.
to be more precise – what my dad and i will chat about in the car on the way to the church, m.r.’s face when he turns to see me walk down the aisle, my grandad singing our first song and leaving the reception at the end of the day knowing we are husband and wife……

happy holidays! i look forward to following you into the next year :0)

  71. cuuuute necklace and monogramness! I made that bag for my mama. she loved it!

ok so…my favorite thing about the last year was moving into our new place and out of the turquoise mcdonalds playland apartment with the paint experiments and wierd high ceilings and neighbors on all sides and below. I loved moving into the new place with a sweet back yard and lots of character and homeyness!

next year I am most looking forward to my first niece Avery growing up!!! And my new job which I started today that included playing sitting beach ball volleyball with 80 year olds for an hour and a half.

    YAY 2010

  72. Don’t know how I missed reading this post, maybe the Holidays had something to do with it.

Love the neckless and the bag.

My favorite thing of this year…we finished up the major construction of our remodel.

The thing I’m looking forward to most next year…decorating my new space!

  73. My favorite thing about this year was giving birth to my daughter. Well, not so much the giving birth part, but the having her here now. The thing I’m looking forward to most for this next year is watching her grow up into a little toddler. 🙂

    P.S. Mega cool giveaway.

  74. You have always been so crafty:) I love the necklace and the bag, I wish I was just able to come up with stuff like that…..
My favorite thing about this year is watching my family just sitting back and watching them:) I love how my girls will just play together, they make up the cutest games and they are always there for eachother.
Next year I’m the most looking forward to seeing where mt family ends up…we have lots of changes coming soon and I’m exctited to see what God has planned for us:)

  77. really pretty necklace, and I’m a total sucker for totes!

my favorite thing about this year was having the opportunity to visit Disneyworld for the first time with my family. Because of health reasons, there’s no way we could all do something like that again.

next year I am most looking forward to graduating with a college degree and moving back to California.

Hope you have a great new year!
