everybody loves a party.

50 doesn’t have to mean all black.

This Sunday I hosted my mom’s 50th birthday party.
I wanted to make it cute…and NOT all black.
Besides…fifty is the new forty, right?
Even if it isn’t….
I fully intend on telling myself
this when I turn 50.

Here’s what I came up with…

a color scheme of:
*celery *pale pink *french vanilla *white
-feminine details….
-doilies & lace
-a floral motif.
-mixed with natural elements….
-jute and brown craft paper.

I think my favorite thing was the doily streamer…banner…whatever it should be called.  I had intended to clip the doilies to the jute using wooden clothespins, but they were too heavy and looked funny, so I came up with the idea of folding the doilies in half and hanging them over the jute.  They stayed on great, and I liked them so much I kept them up.  I actually kept everything up (except for the balloons) because it’s so cheery and spring-like.

I also like how the lace turned out looking like curtains when I hung it up.  I was just trying to cover up our canvas painting because the colors didn’t go with the rest of the decor and one last panel wasn’t big enough to cover it, but I really like the final product.

The only things I bought for this were the flowers (from Trader Joe’s – the little flowers were from my front yard), balloons, dodilies and table cloth.  Everything else I had on hand.  Oh…and speaking of the table cloth….I really hate disposable table cloths.  They’re always made of that shiny gross material, but this one was awesome.  It was kind of like thick napkin material, but was lined with plastic underneath.  It was only $2 more than the shiny, nasty variety and totally worth it.

Alright…that’s it.  I get really excited about decorating for parties.  In fact…it’s the whole reason I decided to start this blog (see my first post ever here).  If you ever need help or ideas for party planning, e-mail me…I’d love to brainstorm with you!

Hope you’re all having a lovely day!

xo
