an outfit for a holiday party.

The holidays can get expensive.

On top of all the presents you need to buy, you’ve got holiday parties to go to and you want to look nice, which usually means buying a new outfit.
Well….this year I did a little shopping in my own closet for the Christmas party that I went to this weekend and I really liked the outcome.  We’ve been watching a lot of Mad Men lately so I feel like I definitely drew some of my inspiration from that.  It’s sort of a Mad Men/Billie Holiday/Art Deco inspired look.

Dress: F21 (it was my rehearsal dinner dress 3 years ago!)
Belt: My friend Jamie’s
Clutch: Thrifted
Shoes: Lela Rose
Ring & Earrings: F21
Hairpiece: made by a friend

The best part about this outfit is that the dress actually fit!  It’s from my wedding rehearsal dinner 3 years ago and as you can imagine I was definitely at my “fighting weight” at the time :).  When I went to try it on, I expected it to be a bit snug, but actually it was a little loose!  This led to playing more dress up in my closet and finding that many of my old favorites fit again.  Definitely good motivation to keep up my healthy habits throughout the rest of the holiday season and beyond.
Hope you all have a lovely day!

  7. that dress is beautiful! I think F21 used to make much nicer stuff 2-3 years ago.. that dress looks like it could’ve been from a department store or somewhere nicer. I love that you paired white with everything, it looks lovely for this time of year!

  8. loooove that ring!

  9. Great idea…shop in your closet, not the mall 🙂 I love the shoes and ring, so cute

  16. That’s awesome, I love finding an old outfit that still looks good in the closet. That dress is adorable, and those shoes look so good with it. I’m totally into the vintage inspired look. I’m hopefully posting on my blog today about my vintage hair for my friend’s wedding.

  17. I think it’s funny that you take photos of your outfits in the same hallway everytime. 😉 Very cute though!

  18. I adore this outfit! You look very Mad Men chic!

Oh, and your earlier outfit post totally inspired me to shop my own closet, so thanks!

  19. Fun! I have a similar challenge. We are going to a wedding on the 30th, but I can’t justify spending money on a new dress. I’m not so sure I can fit in my dresses from that long ago though. I don’t think I want to know how much I have gained so I probably won’t reach that far back in the closet 🙂

  20. I love your outfit! The white accessories are the best!

  21. I love you …tons.

    Oh and you’re really purdy.

Good for you for breaking “those” rules stating you can’t wear white after Labour Day. You look fantastic – and you’re rocking red lipstick!
