hallway fashions: preppy mcpreperson.

This outfit is incredibly preppy.

More preppy than my usual look, but I was inspired by the lovely Joke of Tokketok Press.  I had the pleasure of meeting her the other day and she had on a similar gingham shirt tucked into ankle length jeans with flats and I thought she looked absolutely adorable, so I basically just copied her.  Hope you don’t mind Joke!

cardigan: F21
shirt: Old Navy
belt: thrifted
jeans: F21
flats: H&M

Some thoughts about this outfit:  F21’s $10.50 jeans always fit me better than anything else.  Is that weird?  Not as prestigious as designer jeans, but if the jeans fit…. And I’m not sure how I feel about the tucked in shirt.  I think it’s not so flattering in the tummy region, since it happens to be my “problem area”, but whatev.  My favorite thing about this outfit are the ballerina flats.  I got them at H&M and they’re pretty much the only pink thing I own.  I was going to get them in grey, but my inner-child simply couldn’t resist pink ballerina flats.  So what if I was a ballet drop-out by the tender age of five?  I’m still going to rock these pink shoes like nobody’s business!

Overall I’m proud that I stepped outside the box and tried some new things: 1) the tucked in shirt, & 2) pink!

What’s a trend you’ve been wanting to try?
Try something new today and let me know how it goes!

  1. HA! I was a ballet school drop out too! I find it hard to get jeans to fit right, you look great x

  2. It’s cute too! I love tucking even though it’s not a good idea for apple shapes, i can’t resist! I tend to tuck when I wear high-waisted skirts that helps.
Anyway the other day I wore a backward cardigan and…i did not like it, but like you said at least i tried something new!

  3. love the tucked in shirt and pink ballet flats!

  4. I love the gingham shirt – I don’t own one so I’ll have to go hunting for the spring season! I just bought a wool miniskirt on clearance the other day and I’m dying to try it out with some tights before it gets too warm!

  5. Oh I love this look on you! I agree about tucked in shirts though… I have to tuck my shirt in at work and it makes me happy I have to wear an apron so it hides my tummy!

  6. Ha, I can relate on the tummy region comment 🙂 I just started pilates to remedy it, but I’m sore today!

I love trying new looks. Not sure I’m in the mood for it today, but you look super cute!

  7. For Halloween I dressed up as a devil and wore red lipstick. I looked extremely devilish/sultry and since then I have been wanting to pair it with a normal outfit. I did on Monday and I think it looked cute, but it’s hard to get used too. Here in Germany, make up is not big, so I felt like I stood out. I will prevail though, and rock it again. Love your jeans…BTW.

  8. eeep!!! SOOOO cute!! I think the tucked in shirt looks beautiful on you!!! I too don’t think it looks good on me!! However, I LOVE your flats and your cute cardigan!!
PS If I see someone wearing something similar to something I already own- I am so going to try it out!!! 🙂

  9. i love the outfit! and i completely agree about the f21 jeans… they fit me way better than a $200 pair of jeans.

  10. i think it looks greaT!

  11. I am the exact same way with F21 jeans, except the pair i have are only 9.50. I feel like you should have to pay buttloads of cash for a perfect fit jean but i guess not!

also, your outfit is super cute and i don’t think it’s too preppy with the neutral colors and then fact that it’s plaidish rather than pin stripes or something… but you can pull any look off anyway!

  12. preppy chic. i love it.
it’s kinda where my outfits have been going. collared shirts and cardigans.
kinda of a grown up indie chic.

    you’re totally adorable.

  13. You look adorable! It’s preppy and a little retro chic! All of us ballet school drop-outs should start a support group or something:-) I still rock the flats though too! xoxo

  14. I really like that shirt, and at least from these pictures having it tucked in doesn’t look bad at all! Way to try things out of your box, I need to do that more.

  15. i know what you mean about the “problem areas”, i think us girls all feel like that sometimes… but i think the tucked-in shirt looks fabulous on you!

  16. I love this outfit! So laid back but really cute at the same time! And I LOVE pink ballerina flats!

  17. I just wore an outfit like that yesterday to class yup I am pretty preppy at times sometimes I am just in the mood. I love your hallway fashion posts. Will email soon about the Portland trip … WAHOOOOOO!

  18. cute! I love the checkered top!

  19. i love f21 jeans! i’ve never paid more than $15 dollars from them and they ALWAYS fit me! i own more f21 jeans than any other brand and since they’re so cheap, i can buy lots! your outfit is cute- love the flats!

  20. I think you look lovely. ♥

  21. i am a fan of the tucked in shirt. i just tuck in my front and leave the back out!

Preppy is a favorite look of mine mixed with grunge….
