life lessons for fern #6.

Dear Fern,

My lesson for you today is this….

Maintain a bit of mystery.

In this world of play-by-play social media, it’s easy to become an over-sharer.  It’s human nature to want to connect with others and sharing is part of that, but there is a time and a place for everything and there is definitely something to be said for holding back a bit.  I hope that you learn to be vulnerable and to let people into your life, but I also hope that you learn that you don’t need to share every little detail of your life with every person you meet.

There are certain relationships where you will feel completely comfortable and free to be yourself, but a bit of mystery can keep a relationship fresh and keep them coming back for more.  Require people to put in the effort to get to know you.  Anyone who will do this is worth keeping around.

Love,
Mom
