some goals. resolutions if you will.

So…I usually never make New Year’s resolutions.  I honestly think they are a recipe for failure.  They’re always so unrealistic.  But, for some reason I’ve been feeling motivated this year to come up with a few.  Here’s what I’ve got….

1.  wear more dresses/skirts.

{via}

            I love wearing dresses.  They make me feel pretty.  And yet….I rarely
            wear them.  I’m hoping to get better at this, because when you feel
            pretty you feel confident and I could always use more confidence.

2.  do more random acts of kindness.

{via}

            Sometimes I feel that little tugging to do something selfless and nice
            for another person but I’m usually in such a rush throughout my day
            that I don’t often “have time” for stopping to help others.  This year I
            want to take time for others.

3.  love people.

{via}

             This year I want to learn to love people like Jesus.  I want to look at
              them and look for the good instead of sizing them up and judging.  I
              don’t want to gossip about others.  I want to find ways to build up and
              encourage rather than breaking people down.

4.  get back to the gym.

{via}

            I hate the gym.  HATE.  But I need to get back there on a regular basis
            because I like endorphins.  They make me happy.  Lately I’ve been going
            maybe once a week.  No bueno.  My goal is 3x/week forcardio classes
            and weights twice a week at home.  Usually I make crazy goals like I’m
            going to work out for at least an hour 6x/week.  Maybe this doesn’t
            sound crazy to everyone, but it’s just not realistic for me.  I get burnt
            out and quit.  My new goal is consistency.  Maybe also to get a sweet
            outfit like Jane Fonda’s here.  So hot.

5.  do my hair.  sometimes.
    maybe makeup.  maybe.

{via}

            I suck at hair and makeup.  I want to get better at it.  So I’m going to
            watch tutorials on youtube and maybe take some makeup “classes”
            from my friend Liz who always looks gorgeous.  Basically the goal
            is to not have a bare face and ponytail every day.

6.  plan a vacation.

{via}

            Craig and I haven’t gone on a vacation out of Oregon since our
            honeymoon.  This year I want to plan a trip to…somewhere.
            Anywhere really.  Out of the country would be nice, but I’ve never
            even been off the west coast (except for a brief stop over the Idaho
            border) so even in state would be cool.  I’ve only been to Oregon,
            Washington, California, Whistler BC, “Idaho”, Kenya and technically
            London when our flight was delayed and we had to stay in an airport
            hotel.  I’ve got lots of world left to see.  I want to make a plan and
            start saving.

7.  spend more time being crafty.

{via}

             Crafting makes me happy.  I don’t do it enough.  More in 2010 sounds
             lovely to me.  I also want to make a crafting space in our spare room
             so I’ll be more likely to do it.

8.  eat more vegetables.

{via}

             I only like a handful of veggies.  Mostly the green ones.  My first goal
             is tomatoes…I know I can learn to like them if I try.  Maybe I’ll try
             a new veggie every week?  OK…probably not.  Maybe a new one every
             month.  Yes…that sounds more manageable.

OK….that’s all.  What’s the biggest resolution on your list?

Comments

  1. Great post! I so wish I was more crafty! My goal focuses on work…work less and worry about work less!

  2. Good resolutions!

  3. i used to hate tomatoes! but then my grandpa would feed me his home grown tomatoes with pepper and salt and they were so delicious. then i started working at a sandwich shop and had to slice gross ones everyday and started to hate them again, however i love them now. when they are fresh? they are soo good. they are really yummy with fancy bread, and havarti cheese. FRESH tomatoes though. they have to be fresh 🙂

    i need to eat more veggies too! i only like a handful. sean always gets sandwiches with everything and i only get lettuce and tomatoes. i need to be better! i am getting better the older i get though, so maybe it will get better!

    i am the same about the hair and makeup thing! it is not my favorite thing to do because i am not good at it. i never wear eyeshadow but then see my sis and friend who wear it all the time and they look so cute. they looked at those tutorials on youtube too! they really help!

    my favorite one you chose was love people. today in church i got up and told how impressed i was with sean because of something that happened at 3:30 am this morning. he got a phonecall from a friend who really really needed his help. sean was up in a heartbeat and didn’t even think twice. it make me think of the relationship we have with god and christ and how no matter what, they are always there for us. just waiting for us to let them help. i want to be more like them and sean. not be on a “Schedule” per say of when i am available to help others. i don’t know why it was just a very humbling experience for me because i probably would have ignored the call. it doesn’t make me proud to say that. so i am going to be better about that!

    also, i think a trip to utah should totally be in your plans 🙂 i love oregon, but i know what you mean! i have never been anywhere besides utah, oregon, cali, nevada and australia an fiji. haha kinda random but i want to explore the US more! i have never been anywhere east of utah! so sad.

    anyway, hope you had a lovely lovely weekend! i was so happy to see you posted 🙂

    oh and i need to try to wear more dresses and skirts too. i really don’t mind them i just don’t have any that i like! any ideas of where to get some cheap ones?

    anyway, love ya lo!

  4. great resolutions (or as i would prefer to call them, goals)!

    tomatoes are my favorite… you just to need to match them with something delicious! and salt and pepper are always soooooo good on any veggie!

    if you want a vacay you are always welcome to come to the bacquet home for a little beach fun and surf lessons! 😉

    xo

  5. I love your resolutions! They’re wonderful. And that craft room looks like a dream!

  6. wow i commented 3 times and it messed up!
    you can do it!
    my last comment was long but i cant type it all agaon bc i have to go to bed! xo

  7. i love how all of the pictures in #1 are of Zoey Deschanel. She is such a style icon!! and I totally cut my bangs tonight after seeing 500 days of summer. yea, im completely lame! nevertheless. love her!

    and those are some great resolutions! most of mine are pretty much the same 🙂

  8. Wow. Go you! I so don’t make resolutions because I never keep them. But these all sound realistic. Maybe I’ll follow in your footsteps. I’m definitely on board with the “more acts of kindness” thing. That is so something I need to work on!

    “Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands.” Name that movie?

    Thanks for your sweet comment. I loved it even if you don’t have kids. I know it’s different, but people always think that because you don’t have kids you don’t know anything. So wrong. I am glad you commented 🙂

  10. great goals!
    some of them sound a lot like mine.
    🙂

  11. If you don’t mind driving to Clackamas, I’ll work out with you at 24hour! Andy has decided that he wants to work out in the morning (ugh!) and I am definitely an “after-work” work-out person. I get off around 3-4PM. Want to try?

    As for your makeup comment/post, if you go to Nordstroms/Macys/etc, they’ll do your makeup for free and teach you how to do yours in a bunch of different ways if they think that you’ll be willing to buy stuff – which you usually will. Mandi and I have been going and buying one or two things at a time (brushes, new eye shadow, etc) and learning new ways to do our makeup. It has helped me feel more comfortable experimenting with new colors and techniques. 🙂

  12. I am going to work on learning to say “NO” more often,so that I can make sure I don’t give my husband the leftovers of my time. I am also going to try my very best to make this the year to be on time more often than not. I am going to try to incorporate some of your resolutions in my life-doing more random acts of kindness, loving people, being consistent in going to the gym, and eating more veggies. I don’t usually like to mention my resolutions, because I feel that it is a sure set up for failure, but with God’s strength and help I will not fail. 🙂

  13. these are seriously excellent resolutions. i am the same way about dresses and hair and makeup as you. i LOVE LOVE LOVE getting dressed up, and i’m definitely going to start trying to do it more often. i absolutely gives me a huge confidence boost. 🙂 happy new year!

  14. I love your resolutions – and the one about wearing dresses reminds me that’s something I should do as well 🙂

    I don’t really make resolutions – primarily because it takes more effort than I’m willing to put in to come up with them 😛 lol. I think my life resolution is just to keep making things better and pursuing sanctification so that every year is better than the one before it and I’m always at a point in life that I don’t think I have lost ground. 🙂

  15. those are great! i also want to wear more dresses and skirts this year!! i’m the same way; i feel so pretty and more confident when i wear them yet i rarely do. how strange. i want to eat healthier this year and work out more. i am guilty of gaining the freshman-15. it gradually happened throughout the past 4 years and now i need to get rid of it before i graduate. i want to plan a vacation too! but a more realistic goal for me would be to start saving money rather than spending. so that maybe in 2011 I’ll be able to afford a vacation.

  16. i’ve stopped doing new year’s resolutions ages ago. however, i kinda like having possibilities to become a better person. my patience is something i really have to be work on. i mean, i don’t snap at people or yell, but i’m not the “stand-arounder” let’s “wait for the bus” type of girl. i move on pretty quickly (whether its making a decision or literally waiting for other people).

    i love tomatoes. you should try them with mozarella cheese, basil and balsamic vinegar. yum!

    oh, i really liked the heels i wore for NYE. i should wear them more often when i can. i’m so spoiled with comfy shoes that heels, depending on the brand, can be really nice, too 🙂

  17. i love all of your resolutions! ditto on, well….. all of them 🙂

    i really only plan on sticking to one goal–mainly because it’s an enjoyable goal. i posted it here : http://creativespacesuntiedlaces.blogspot.com/2010/01/goals.html

    XO.

    p.s. i’ve always hated tomatoes. but i found that i LOVE them baked (in chunks on pizza and such) or marinated in balsamic vinegar (in caprese sandwiches or insalata caprese)
    it’s worth a try 🙂

  18. These are awesome 🙂 They aren’t too rediculous so they’ll be simpler to stick to and they’re good for you 🙂 I am aiming for a lot of these too =)

  19. I love all those resolutions!

    I think my biggest resolution is to stop swearing. So far I’m doing horrible at it.

  20. I love these goals! Especially the wear more dresses/skirts one.

    My resolution is to mark off everything on my 30 Before 30 list. I still have over 15 things left and only 8 months to go! No time for any other goals!

  21. I find that there are very few veggies that I dislike when they have some balsamic vinegar added to them. (My husband likes adding salt to them too, but my salt tolerance is pretty low.)

    I think all of us should try to do more random acts of kindness, it is perpetually one of my resolutions, and I think I get better at it every year. 🙂

  22. oh those are all awesome resolutions!!! Happy 2010
    😉

  23. Love your resolutions! Your #1 is something I should have thought of too. I always have a difficult time with wearing skirts. Zooey Deschanel looks fabulous in her picks.

    You can see my resolutions at me new blog: http://www.diamondsandtulle.blogspot.com

  24. great list! Although I have to say you’re gorgeous and don’t need to wear any makeup! Sometimes the bare, fresh look is the prettiest 🙂

    I HATE the gym too..I really don’t want to get back but I figure now’s the time right?

    I love dresses but skirts intimidate me because I never know how to match them with tops haha

    Happy New Year Lauren!

  25. k i would love to help you out! your blog is so cute though, but its really easy to add three columns, it take a little work but i could totally help you out! whatever is easiest for you! if you want to change your password for a bit and give it to me and have me change it..or keep it, i promise i will forget the password immediately and won’t stalk you..unless you want me to.. haha totally kidding. but yes, i need you to come train me…asap! i think a little owl favicon would be really cute to go with your header..i dunno. let me know what you think! love ya lo! hope you are having a great day! (email me)

  26. i’m baaaack! your resolutions inspire me to actually set mine.

    xoxo

  27. I love the way you’ve added pictures to your list of resolutions. It makes it so much more interesting…I’m going to try more make up, too. Usually I’m in sweats and messy hair!

  28. What a fun list. Love number 3 and 4 for sure! 🙂 I don’t believe in resolutions. I don’t know, it’s just not me. Though of course I would love for some things to change in my life or for habits to end or start but I don’t list them because I always forget what I had in mind or just don’t go through with anything. 🙁 Then, well, I started my work out routine again. No gym. Don’t like that one. 😉 Have a great day.

  29. i love your goals! they are really good ones!! exercising is on my list too but my goal is at least once a week 🙂 haha… better than nothing right?

    happy 2010! good luck with your goals! you can do it!!

  30. you have to eat the little cherry tomatoes. they pop in your mouth, like grapes. or you can cut them in half and put salt and pepper or an italian salad dressing. SO good. Also, the little yellow tomatoes are even better than the red, just more rare. enjoy.

  31. What good goals you have, dear! One of my goals is to work on dressing up more, too! I “dress up” for work but often times I feel so lazy and sluggish in the morning, that I just wear slacks and sweaters and scarves and stuff–I don’t put any effort into it. But on the days I do, I always feel so much better!

    My biggest goal is to push away negativity and become a more understanding and happy wife!

  32. Sounds a whole lot like my lists. No joke!

  33. Haha, I love this list! 🙂 Those are all great!
