his & hers.

Today inspired by the cute his & hers posts over at Hooray Design and Pure and Noble, I thought I’d do my own about Craig and myself.  This week’s edition of “his & hers” will be about our green thumbs….or lack of.

His & Hers:

His plants:
These are assorted vegetable starters from the farmer’s market.  Craig asked me to buy him some when I was there a couple weeks ago.  He was supposed to plant them.  But….they’re still sitting there.  I refuse to plant them as my last attempt at a container garden was a complete and miserable failure.  As of now, the cilantro has seen better days and the leaves on the broccoli are looking a little sad.  Keep going strong tomatoes and peppers!!

Her plants:
In my lifetime as a plant caretaker I have killed every plant imaginable including the following: cacti, succulents and bamboo.  Yes.  That’s right.  I killed the unkillable.  BUT….I am quite excited about this pretty little moss cube terrarium I got in the mail this weekend from my new sponsor Sea & Asters.  The tillandsia air plant only needs a soak in water about once a week.  Perhaps this is a plant I can finally keep alive.  I do hope so since I’m beginning to lose hope. (Check out more of Sea & Asters’ lovely terarrium’s here….since we’re on the subject).

Apparently neither of us have to greenest of thumbs.
Cest la vie.

  1. i love terrariums!! theyre so pretty and easy to take care off… and you killed bamboos before!? wahhhhhh?! hahhaah theyre easy to take care of! then again… ive killed one before too :[ i forgot to keep it hydrated -___-

  2. My mom just planted flowers for us outside our house and I asked if she planned on coming over to take care of them as well. I kill every single green thing I try to take care of.

At least I don’t have that same luck with dogs.

  3. Yeah, I can’t keep anything alive either. I bought an orchid a few months ago and the instructions were so simple: three ice cubes once a week and low light. I thought it was unkillable but nope, I did it! haha.

The succulents look so pretty and I love the little cube they’re in!

  4. We bought one house plant a couple of weeks ago and now Jeremy is absolutely obsessed. Now we have four. We haven’t had any of them long enough to actually kill them yet so I’m interested to see how it goes. I also really don’t want them to die because we named them and now they feel like family.

  5. maybe you should put new soil in the containers? I know plants need nutrients from soil and old soil can be “dead”. I kept my bamboo alive for 12 years…I’m pretty much an expert. not. How the heck am I supposed to keep a whole freakin backyard alive?

    PS: that terrarium is awesome.

  6. i’ve killed my fair share of succulents as well. i’ve also killed bamboo. but i think aaron is partly to blame because whenever i go out of town, i come back to very thirsty little plants.

  7. Chad and I do not have green thumbs at all. We will try this summer to plant some herbs but nothing too complicated. I’m always so jealous of my parents and grandparents who can live off of the tomatoes and other veggies that they grow in their gardens.

P.S. I love the his + hers series from those two so much that I decided to write a couple posts on my own blog. Hope you keep yours up.

  8. I love those little plants. You’ll have to keep us updated if it stays alive. You should just plant them and see what happens. Sometimes they keep going strong on their own if they just have room to grow, and it rains enough in Portland.

  9. Your little terrarium is adorable! You’ll have to keep us posted if you keep it alive!

I’m always looking for plants I won’t be able to kill!!! I love them, but unless my hubby takes care of them there really isn’t any hope for plant survival! :/

  10. This is too funny! My husband has more of a green thumb than I do. I’m always killing our poor indoor plants and hanging baskets 🙁

  11. My hubby and I were talking about getting one large potted plant we can put in the corner of our living room. It’s going to be a big step for us to take care of it. It’s almost like having a baby…lol!

  12. And here I thought I was the only one who killed cacti! You are not alone, I possess the black thumbs in my relationship too! Good luck with your new plant! 8)
