modern correspondence.

I like the idea of snail mail
and I absolutely LOVE getting it in my mailbox.
The only problem is…I’m generally far too lazy to actually send it to others.
With the exception of Thank You cards, I’m actually quite terrible at written correspondence.  In this modern age that we live in, it seems like e-mail and text thank you’s, invitations, birthday cards, holiday cards, etc…may soon become the norm.
This is not to say that I hope that snail mail goes away completely.  I actually find it to be quite lovely.  BUT…in the interest of saving time and money it would be great if there was a way to send thoughtful, yet modern, correspondence via a digital medium now and then.
Well…now there is,
thanks to the website Paperless Post and the iPhone app Red Stamp.

At Paperless Post you can customize cards and invitations to your heart’s content and then send them out to friends and family.  Paperless post will even keep track of your RSVP’s and the coolest part is that when people open these digital correspondences they’ll open just like a card, complete with pretty custom-lined envelopes that has their name written on it in the font of your choosing.  Much more personal than a quick e-mail, right?  Here are a couple of examples from their site….

Christmas Cards
Holiday Parties
Birthday Cards
Thank Yous
Party Invitations
Red Stamp offers a very similar service, except for your phone.  You can customize templates for announcements, invites, etc… and then e-mail, text or even send them via snail mail using their mailing service direct from your phone.  It’s basically awesome and officially my new favorite app.
Invites
Invite to your significant other for a little date night.
Party Invitation
Thank You
I highly recommend both Paperless Post and Red Stamp for a way of maintaining a bit of thoughtfulness and a personal touch in your modern correspondence.
What’s your take opinion concerning digital correspondence?  Do you think it’s ok to send in lieu of snail mail for thank yous and the like?  I’d love to get your take on it!

  1. Wow, these are great!

  2. Super cool idea! Definitely has that more personal feel to it, not to mention, way adorable! xoxo

  3. wow its crazy how everything is seriously going digital. im a snail mail handwritten note kinda gal still!

  4. Thanks for sharing these! I love sending (and getting) mail, it feels more personal! But I do love the Red stamp app (just downloaded it!!), it makes it more personal!

  5. These sound like super cool websites. And the stuff you’ve showcased looks really great. But in my heart, it will never beat out a real, physical, stamped piece of mail.

There’s something grounding about holding a piece of paper in your hand, putting invitations and announcements on the fridge, and saving treasured notes.

Also, I think penmanship is becoming a lost art. I love the personality that inevitably shines through whenever I read something hand-written.

So, while I certainly wouldn’t scoff at receiving anything from these adorable sites, in the end I’d rather have the real thing. But then, I’m old timey in a lot of other ways too.

  6. I used that yellow Paperless Post card to send thank you notes to my co-workers after my work baby shower. I had done so many by hand for the other showers, it was a nice change.

  7. Wow those are really cool!

  8. I love to send and receive mail too. I try to make a point to send cards to friends and family on non-traditional card holidays, like Halloween or St. Patricks day. Also, I love your fill in the blank Fridays, and it has inspired mr to start a Link up, must have Mondays. Today is the first day and I would love for you to check it out! Merry Christmas!

  9. These are so cool! And definitely something I would actually enjoy creating and sending!! :] Thanks for sharing!

  10. Love the idea of this! Expect a digital correspondence from me SOON!

  11. Those are super cute… but I just don’t think I would use it. At least, not for thank you cards. Maybe for invites though, especially if it keeps track of RSVPs. They look much cuter than e-vites.

  12. I’m actually a huge letter writer, package sender but I still love this for quick notes! How wonderful!

  13. I heart red stamp!

I still love snail mail. It means a lot that the person took the time to HAND WRITE on card and mail it to you. Plus, we all like getting something in the mailbox every once in a while.

Remember when people use to send actually hard copy photos through the mail? I miss that.
