Feeling Ridiculously Festive

Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas season is here with full force!

I’ve never been a big Christmas person, but ever since I became a mom it’s kind of my new favorite. I think it’s the fact that I remember it so fondly from my childhood and I’m excited to create fun memories for Fern. I just filled all the little bags for our advent calendar and I can’t wait to see her open all the fun little gifts and do the fun activities that await her inside.

We already started off the holidays with a bang by going Christmas tree hunting for the first day of Advent. Day two (today) will include hot chocolate adventures with friends and I can hardly wait!

Here’s a little photo dump from our Christmas tree hunting adventure. It was so fun seeing Fern fun around at the tree farm this year and it was definitely a better experience than last year’s “Poop Fiasco of 2012” – even though that was pretty funny in retrospect.

Obviously a Christmasy outfit was necessary.

When we arrived at the tree farm, we were greeted by a massive inflatable Peanuts display. She liked Lucy the best and kept trying to hold hands with her while saying, “Lucy wearing pitty purple dress Mama!” Fern wanted to stay here all day instead of tree hunting, but I finally convinced her to say her goodbyes.

Heading out with my awkward 13-week pregnant belly that just looks like I have a penchant for beer and burritos. What are you gonna do?

She kept pointing to all the trees as we walked along saying, “Same, same!” and then telling us which ones were big and which ones were little.

This is my child hugging a Christmas tree. Yes, hugging.

The winner. We actually found it after less than two minutes of being at the tree farm, but since the hunt is half the fun, Craig appeased me and we looked for like 10 more minutes before coming back to the first one that we loved. Sometimes you just know.

Family photo opp and there is no poop involved this time – yay!

We went home later and trimmed the tree and added a few more decorations around the house. This one is my favorite – a little box of ornament hangers that was Craig’s grandma’s. There are still actually ornament hooks in there, but I just like to set the box out as decor. I love it!

How was your weekend? Did you get a tree? Did you do anything fun and festive? Did you celebrate anything else?

Love and holiday cheer,

Lauren

    You guys are so adorable!

  4. Fern is such a doll! I love the “Kiss-mess tee”, she’s so cute 🙂 Sweet little angel.

  5. That Fern hugging the tree picture is too cute!

  6. Can I ask what you put in the advent calendar? I wanted to do a homemade one but I was totally at a loss about what to put in it. Thanks!

    • Jill – I put a variety of things in the bags for my advent calendar. I did half activities and half gifts. Activities include things like: *Go on a hot chocolate date, *Go look at Christmas lights, *Bake Christmas cookies… and the gifts were little things. I tried to stay away from food, but I did include a healthy fruit snack in one. Also, included baby Jesus in the manger from the nativity set she’ll be getting one of the days, a horse figurine, new crayons, stickers, things like that :).

  7. Um Lauren… can I have Fern’s Christmas outfit please?!

  8. I love that picture of her hugging the tree!! She is a doll. 🙂 I love these posts because your little family always has so much fun and looks so genuinely happy. How in the world do you manage to keep the hats and shoes on her? My almost one year old just started walking and she always manages to remove her shoes. Not that Florida gets as cold as Oregon, but it would be nice if she managed to keep them on in inclimate weather.

    • Thank you Kat! I think the hats and shoes thing is a little easier for us because I’ve always put shoes, hats and other accessories on her from the time she was a tiny baby. I’m pretty sure she’s just used to it. That said, having a little choice in the matter is always fun. I’ll let her pick between a few different options and ask her what she would like to wear. There are definitely certain hats she doesn’t like at all and certain ones that the outright requests. I’ve started asking her opinion when we’re out shopping as well and she definitely let’s me know her preferences. I recently wanted to buy her a certain hat at Old Navy and she HATED it and threw it on the ground repeatedly when I tried it on her. The red and white hat in this post is the same exact hat, but a different color than the one I picked and she loves it! Go figure :).

      • I’m going to try that. She has started telling me what she likes and wants to wear. I think she would live barefoot if she could. Although this morning she did want to wear her boots like mommy! Success! Though it was short lived. She does love shopping, maybe if I have her pick the shoes herself she’ll be more inclined to wear them. Thank you for the idea. 🙂
