What Fern Wore: Kohl’s Disney Jumping Beans + A GIVEAWAY!

*This GIVEAWAY is now closed*

“I participated in an Ambassador campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting  for Kohl’s. I received promotional items and product samples as a thank you for participating.”

It is no secret that we are Disney lovers around here. I mean, I blog for Disney Baby, so it was pretty much bound to happen, right?

Before I became a parent, I used to swear up and down that my child would never wear any clothing with characters on it, but ever since the first time Fern met Minnie Mouse at Disneyland I’ve become a convert. Minnie and Mickey bring a smile to her face like nothing else and who am I to begrudge her joy? Plus… something about seeing her wear Disney attire makes me feel all nostalgic and takes me back to the magical days of my own Disney-loving childhood.

Recently I was invited to be a part of Kohl’s Disney Ambassador program and knowing that it would involve Minnie Mouse gear for my girl, I jumped on board. Disney and Kohl’s have teamed up to create “Magic At Play” – a combining of the spirit of Disney and its lovable characters with the fun and practical Jumping Beans kids clothing line. The first collection focuses on Mickey, Minnie and classic Americana style – all things I love.

Here are a couple of samples from the line that we were sent. Obviously she really wanted that polka dot dress since she’s been super into ballet and tutus for dress-up lately. But, alas the samples were too large. Luckily we were also given a gift card to shop the collection, so we headed off to Kohl’s.

Now, if you’ve ever spent any amount of time shopping with a toddler, then you know how absolutely dreadful it can be. These days the only shopping we do is at stores where they have carts readily available, which pretty much relegates us to grocery stores. Thankfully Kohl’s has carts though, which made the whole experience infinitely more enjoyable. Then, we arrived at the Disney Jumping Beans area of the store and Fern pretty much flipped out with excitement.

“Mama! That’s Mickey and Minnie! And that’s Disneyland!”

What Fern Wore: Kohl's Disney Jumping Beans // @ The Little Things We Do

After my toddler scrutinized every Minnie and Mickey item from the collection, I helped her choose a few pieces that we both liked and then we went home to play dress-up. Getting this girl dressed has been a challenge lately, but since these clothes involved Minnie Mouse she was more than eager to try everything on and play model.

OUTFIT #1: Classic Americana

Since Fern has been wanting to wear dresses exclusively lately, these little shorts are great, because they still twirl like a skirt. She was a big fan and this outfit was my favorite – just a little wink and a nod to Miss Mouse. Also, she’s totally kissing her Minnie Mouse doll in case you were wondering. That was all her. I couldn’t pry it away for photos, but luckily it was an appropriate prop for our theme.

OUTFIT #2: Everyday Comfort

This is the type of outfit Fern would wear to play on a daily basis. Some jeans with stretch and a basic cardigan instantly gain toddler approval when you add a Minnie Mouse tank top.

OUTFIT #3: “Exercise With Mama” Wear

For some reason unbeknownst to me Fern loves when I wear workout clothes…probably because it means we get to go to the gym and she gets to play with all the novel kids and toys. Once she had on this little tank top and mini yoga pants she immediately said, “Mama, now I can exercise with you! Let’s go!” She then proceeded to show me all her best exercise moves, which consequently all happen to be ballet moves she’s learned from a recent library book selection. She’s trying to rock her toddler version of an arabesque right here. Also…that cute bow detail on the back of the tank top – definitely a fun touch.

So basically this was Fern’s most favorite outfit post of all time. This girl is all for Minnie all. the. time.

Favorite Disney Memory? Hands DOWN it’s It’s a Small World. I was obsessed. My grandmother lived in Fullerton only a short drive away so we would go everytime we were in CA for a visit. I would ride over and over again.
Sadly we’re on the East Coast now.
And now in my adulthood as a painter I regularly revisit Mary Blair for inspiration.

  6. My 19 month old is also OBSESSED with Mickey and Minnie. She can pick them out a mile away! All of these clothes are SO cute!

  7. My favorite Disney memory was just recently – back in October – we brought my two year old daughter to Disney! (born January 14, 2012! so close to Fern’s birthday too!) and although she was not a big fan of the characters, she thought that the Dumbo ride was the most magical thing in the whole world. Her eyes lit up with such joy to have papa & i with her on it. No big memory, but one that I will always cherish! Seeing her face light up and watching everyone and everything in its path. 🙂

  8. Epcot, for sure! Great memories that I can’t wait to share with my daughter!

  18. Well I have had quite a few Disney memories from my childhood that I still cherish to this day, but nothing compares to the day my husband and I took our then almost 2 year old daughter for her first time. I remember it started drizzling in the evening so the firework show was canceled (boo) but they ended up playing a projected show on the building of “It’s a small world”. I was flooded back with memories of my many trips there with my family and was hit with the realization that I am now creating memories for my daughter. That these moments will be cherished for our lifetime. Nothing makes me smile more thinking about how I am in charge of those memories. It really makes me feel like a mama. Thinking back on that light show and watching my daughters eyes glisten and glow and the smile on her face? It was perfection.

  30. Claire V. says:

When I was 4, I went to Disneyland with my immediate, and some extended family. We “window shopped” through the Mad Hatter’s hat shop, and kept going on our way to ride rides. However, I described to my parents in painstaking detail the BEAUTIFUL princess hat that I had seen there. It was a tall pointy cone shaped hat covered in hot pink satin, with chiffon and ribbons draping from the point. Oh, and there were sequins–obviously. My dad ran back to check it out, and marveled at my accurate description, but then choked when he saw the price tag. He returned without the hat. However, after a few more hours of Disney magic, my daddy’s girl doe-eyes, and constantly talking about how wonderful that hat was, my parents buckled and got it for me. I was over the moon! But the best part was being called “Princess” all day by the park employees. When we went to ride the Jungle Cruise, my cousins (boys) ran ahead to get on board, and the boat captain actually made them get off, and insisted that princesses board first! I died and went to heaven. <3

Once when I was 7, my parents told me we had to run errands. We drove by Disneyland and I immediately exclaimed “awweee it’s Disneyland! I wish we could go” and my parents started cracking up. 128. I went to Disney World for the first time with my Godmother (who passed away in 2009) when I was about 9. I vividly remember meeting Mulan and she told me how I was her favorite princess that whole day (9 year old day MADE, obviously) and then we left her and went to see one of the parades. When Mulan came around on her float, she pointed straight at me, waved, and blew me kisses. My Godmother was like, “Katie! She remembered you!!” Seriously, I was in heaven. A few months later for Christmas, I got a package from Disney World and when I opened it, there was a card and a bracelet. I don’t remember exactly what the card said (although you better believe I do have it packed away somewhere) but it was signed, “XOXO, Mulan” and I cried because I was so happy. Of course a few years later, I realized that it was actually from my Godmother, but it honestly just made that moment even more special. Hands down one of my favorite memories of Disney World, and more importantly, of her. I cannot wait to take Olivia there someday and be able to do that very same thing to her.

  129. favorite disney memory=last trip to disneyland in 2010 after college graduation with my best girlfriends before moving away from california to texas. it was truly magical.

I have never been to Disney land, so not much as far as memories go. I am planning one soon with our kids, so we will have a ton with our upcoming trip

  131. My favorite Disney memory…it is hard to pick just one! I will have to say memorizing and singing the entire Lion King soundtrack with a friend. We had a sing-along book and CD and would play it nonstop and to this day I still love hearing any of these songs and still know all the words. 🙂

  132. My favorite Disney memory was when my parents took my brother and I to Disney Land when I was 12 years old. It was a lot of waiting in line but it was still fun. My favorite rides were Indiana Jones, Space Mountain and the Haunted Hotel.

  133. I remember going to disney with my family at 4-years-old. I don’t remember much, but I remember having so much fun on the Dumbo ride with my brother!

Entered the rafflecopter form as “Wild Orchid”

Like any new parent, my new favorite Disney memory is taking my 1 year old to disneyland for the first time. This past Easter we took our little girl to visit the happiest place on earth. She loved Mickeys parade. She was smiling, pointing, and waving her hands in the air. It’s a bit of a big deal because she is more of a serious baby. My husband and I have to work to get a laugh out of her. I’ll never forget her face and look forward to many more memories.
