What We Wore: Humble & Hilo

Today I want to introduce you to a brand we love called Humble Hilo.

Humble Hilo is a company that was started by two friends, Lauren and Erica, who share not only a passion for Latin American culture but also a passion for doing good. These two wanted to find a way to mix fashion with philanthropy and thus Humble Hilo was born, creating beautiful bags, shoes and apparel created from beautiful and culturally rich Guatemalan textiles.

Not only is Humble Hilo able to create job opportunities for Maya women and families living in poverty by selling their beautiful huipil creations, but they also give back a portion of all profits with an organization called World Link Partners to help the Guatemalan people through three different and very sustainable projects: 1) Infant and Child Nutrition, 2) Literacy and Education, and 3) Microfinance Loans for Women (you can read more about these projects here). With every item you purchase, not only are families in need of employment supported, but you also get to choose which of the three projects your purchase will go toward supporting. I love this idea, because it definitely makes it a more personal experience.

In addition to all the good that this company does for women, children and families, the products they sell are also incredibly cool and we were so excited to be invited to share a few items from their line with you all! I’m completely smitten with Fern’s little outfit and the bag I chose (it’s one of the large ones) is awesome and perfect for schlepping around all our summer fun essentials. We even fit an entire picnic in there for our day at the park! It’s been a fun way to incorporate color into my otherwise neutral wardrobe – especially now that the sun is out!
