Not Yoga Pants: Taking Time For Style Again

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile, then you know that back in the pre-kid days there used to be quite a lot of outfit posts…like ones of myself and not just my kids. I wouldn’t have ever considered myself to be a fashion blogger or anything, but outfit posts happened consistently, because fashion is something I’ve always enjoyed and had fun with.

Then I had kids and life changed and so did my style posts. My body was totally different and I was no longer leaving the house to go to work every day, so I often spent my days in simple jeans and t-shirt ensembles with no shoes or accessories, because babies break necklaces and who needs shoes in the house? I wasn’t sitting around in PJs all day or anything, but my outfits weren’t anything worth noting.

Then I decided that I would start a regular column about my new take on style…more everyday looks that were pulled together, but still totally functional for life as a mom. I would call it “Not Yoga Pants”. It was fun for awhile and a good way to encourage myself to change things up, but then I got pregnant and I gained a ton of weight and basically gave up on having personal style…again.

But, now that I’ve  had my baby and lost 60+ pounds, I’m finally starting to feel like “me” again, and with no more babies on the horizon (unless God REALLY changes my mind about it or there’s an unforseen accident) I’m cautiously tiptoeing back into the game and having more fun with fashion again.

I’ve been honing in on my personal style as of late – cleaning out my closet and purging things that no longer fit or that simply just don’t get worn often enough. My closet is getting smaller, but I’m getting more adventurous and trying new things. I’m actually finally using Pinterest for something useful and utilizing those outfit pins in my Closet Inspiration board. I’m playing with textures and proportions and trends, but in a way that feels true to me. And it’s fun. And it remind me that I’m not “just a mom” and that it’s OK to take time for me sometimes.

Here’s an outfit I wore last weekend when Craig and I went on a date…only our second in the past almost 4 months. I busted out leather pants, and a textured top, heels and even tied a chambray shirt around my waist. Craig wasn’t too sure about the tied-around-the-waist-look at first, but I think he appreciated that it was different. Also…I am a firm believer in the idea that every woman should own a pair of leather pants. Even though you might feel like you can’t pull them off…you totally can.
