Vomit and Boogers and Sickness…Oh My!

You guys…I totally earned my sick kid mama scout merit badge this past week, and let me tell you…it was no joke.

It was Clive’s first sickness and even though it wasn’t a first for Fern, it was probably the sickest she’s been before. Lots of puke and runny noses and other disgusting bodily fluids happened.

It started when I woke up to projectile vomit in my bed from Clive (because, yes he’s going to be in our bed until he’s in college). Then after I changed us both he projectiled again, except this time on our couch. Then after that clean-up he had a diaper explosion that was unreal…like seriously UN-REAL. Then Fern got sick while spending the night at my in-laws house. Thankfully my sweet mother-in-law dealt with the clean-up on that one though.

Worst than the clean-up though was the fact that both kids were grumpy, emotional wrecks and then Craig and I started getting sick on top of it all. We both felt like we got hit by trucks, but no sick days when you’re a parent. I’m not saying this to be a martyr or anything, because clearly I signed up for this gig, but still…taking care of sick kids when you’re sick too? Pretty much my most unfavorite thing ever. Although the snuggles on the couch and an excuse to watch movies together was pretty sweet.

Vomit and Boogers and Slacking...Oh My! // @ The Little Things We Do

On top of having sick kiddos, it happened to fall during a time when I was supposed to be catching up on work. Ugh. I’ve fallen super behind with blogging this month (obviously here, but I’m talking about the paid gigs over at Disney and Babble…ya know…the ones that buy us groceries and stuff…). I’m super stressed about it, not just because I have to hustle to even finish these posts, but also because I have to hit certain traffic goals for these posts and I have barely any time to do it. Soooo…if you feel like clicking over to my most recent posts and giving them a gander (and or some social sharing love) I would be forever indebted to you. Truly. Plus, one of them is Halloween kid’s costumes, which is always pretty fun anyway.

I’ll be back with regular posts soon. And sorry if this seemed complain-y. I know I live a really blessed life and I don’t want to come off as being ungrateful, because I absolutely am. Just feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment and needed to vent. Thanks for “listening” without judgement…or at least without too much :).

Love,

Lauren

  1. No worries! Glad everyone’s feeling better and that you all survived intact. 🙂 Just heading over to add to your traffic (and, of course, enjoy your thoughts) when I discovered that the costume link doesn’t seem to be working.

Sorry to add to the craziness. 😉

    • @Meg – Thank you friend! I just realized that I scheduled this blog post for earlier than I scheduled the costume blog post. Ugh. Blogger fail. The other post will go live at 8:30 AM. Thank you for letting me know! Hope you have a lovely Thursday! xo

      • LOL No problem! I can totally relate. 🙂 I’ll be sure to check it out when the time rolls around. Enjoy your day, too! (Oh, and I’m totally going to clean my closet this weekend after reading your style tips. ;-))

  2. I hope you are all feeling better, taking care of sick kids are never fun, and being sick yourself on top of that, poor you.
Love you Halloween costume ideas. A few years ago I made a very cheap spider for my son out of a few pair of socks and Black clothing, you can see it here http://www.allaboutconnie.blogspot.dk/2012/02/fastelavn-shrovetide.html

  3. We all have our moments where we get overwhelmed, and that sucks that you and your kids were all sick at the same time. Being sick is no fun, but having a house full of sick people is worse. My ex and I had a friend over at our apartment once that caught a stomach bug when I was pregnant with my son. Fortunately my ex and I never got it because there were three people and only one bathroom. That would’ve been a nightmare! I totally feel for you for sure.

  4. Hello there,

I have been reading your entries for awhile, and I just want to say that even through your blog posts that I can tell that you are an incredibly strong person. It may really stink right now, but I know that you will roll out of this with grace and poise like always. You will probably even come out a little stronger and resembling a super hero. You got this because you are a bad ass woman.
