Mama Style: 25 Weeks Pregnant + Hanna Andersson Maternity

I have long been a lover of all things Hanna Andersson for my kids.

Their clothes are incredibly well-made, with super soft fabrics and bright colors + simple designs that appeal to both kid and grownup aesthetics. While some of the items can seem a bit pricey, I’ve learned that it’s because you truly are getting the most bang for your buck. Well-made clothes can be handed down between multiple kids (we have some Hanna jams that have been passed down from friends and have gone through four kids now and still look fantastic!), unlike their throwaway counterparts that, while cheaper in the short-term, don’t really last.

In the past we have teamed up with Hanna to share some of their kids clothing (see here), so when they invited me to try out a few pieces from their new Hanna maternity line I was pretty thrilled. Even before the items arrived and I got to wear them, I just knew they would be as amazing as every other Hanna product we’ve owned and they did not disappoint.

During pregnancy there are two very important things that most women (myself included) consider when choosing maternity clothes: 1) “Does this make me look/feel cute?” (because, if ever there is a time in life when a girl is going to be feeling a bit more dumpy and disheveled than usual it is pregnancy) and 2) “Is this comfortable for my growing belly/boobs/arms/everything else?”

Over the course of three pregnancies now, I’ve found that not all maternity clothes are created equal and just because a top has some clever ruching up the side does NOT mean it’s going to be flattering…or comfortable. For a long time I was a quantity over quality girl, but pregnancy and motherhood have shown me the error of my ways. It is much better to have fewer pieces that actually look good on me and are made of high-quality, comfortable, wash-and-wear materials, than a whole closet full of stuff that isn’t going to make me feel cute or comfortable.

So basically what I’m saying is that these Hanna maternity items fit the fill perfectly. The tops are made of soft Pima cotton and everything basically felt so cozy like pajamas, but a hundred times cuter. Also knowing how well Hanna items wear over time, I almost (read: like just barely almost) wish I were having more babies to put these items to the test for subsequent pregnancies. In the past my maternity stuff has been worn to death and scarcely survived a single pregnancy, but I’m pretty sure these Hanna duds would handle it like a boss, which is lucky for my friends who are planning to have more babies. Expect some awesome “Hanna-me-downs” in your future!

Note: these photos were taken 4 weeks ago so I’ve definitely done some growing since these, but these styles are still growing right along with me. Also, I swear I am the most awkward pregnant person alive when it comes to taking photos. For some reason I feel the need to touch my belly in every single photo. It’s like a nervous tick I think. But, I was having a really great hair day, so I think that sort of cancels out obsessive hand-on-belly placement, right. Also, I highly recommend taking as many photos as possible during the weeks of 20-30. It really is the sweet spot of pregnancy. You are clearly pregnant (no more of uncomfortable stares as strangers try to assess your ambiguous bump) and it’s the cute kind of pregnant…not the “swollen-feet-can’t-reach-to-shave-anything-chubby-face-miserable” kind of pregnant. I’m quickly rounding the bend to that kind of pregnant at almost 30 weeks. BUT…I digress…on with the outfits!

OUTFIT #1: This one is probably my favorite. I’m seriously obsessed with this tomato red color…especially considering the fact that I wear ALL black and grey ALL the time. This is a fun change. There’s also a really cute cut-out in back that I failed to capture in an even remotely flattering way and decided to omit, because my back grows insanely when I’m pregnant. Not even kidding, it’s like hulk style. (*insert weeping emoji face here*).

OUTFIT #2: OK, so this is basically outfit #1, minus the red top, but I had to show how cute the skirt when you show it off high-waisted style.

OUTFIT #3: I’d like to call this look “Mom’s Day at the Park”. Simple and casual and comfy. I’m all kinds of obsessed with Pima cotton lately. I’ve always loved it for my kid’s clothes, because it’s so soft and cozy, but I had never actually worn it myself and basically it’s like wearing a shirt made of the softest baby kittens…or downy fresh ducklings…or you know…something less weird, but still super soft. I had you at baby kittens, right?

OUTFIT #4: This dress is so great, because I’ll totally be able to wear it beyond pregnancy (hence the clever style name: “Maternity and Beyond”). I love that it can disguise those early/awkward months of “is she or isn’t she?” pregnancy and then amply outfit your bump well into the 9th month when nothing else except your husband’s sweat pants fit (just me?). I also have a feeling it’s going to be perfect for those postpartum days when I’m still looking a bit pregnant. And then once I lose all the baby weight? Well, then I just plan on looking like a super chic Olsen twin in my awesomely stylish and flowy black dress. It’s gonna be great.

So basically, Hanna Andersson’s maternity line is tops and I’m giving it two semi-swollen, pregnant thumbs up.
