Something Special for the Third Child

You know how people say that the third child sort of just raises itself? Well, it’s kind of true. Life with our little Alice Rosalie has been oh-so-sweet, but I would be lying if I said she was getting our full and undivided attention. The truth is…we have two other kids vying for our attention too (often using whining and tantrums as their choice medium of expression) and sometimes our littlest gets the short end of the stick. During my pregnancy I wrote a grand total of ZERO letters to her as I had with my other two, didn’t get any maternity photos taken, and her baby book has yet to even be cracked open (and let’s face it, it’s pretty unlikely that it ever will be at this rate). Sorry third child.

The good news is that she’s getting a whole lot of love, but still I thought it would be nice if we did something special for her to celebrate this early stage of life. I mean, obviously she’s a baby so she doesn’t care now, but I would hate for her to one day as an adult feel like she wasn’t properly commemorated or something. If there is one thing that is #momgoals for me, it is to do my best to avoid being the central theme in my children’s future therapy sessions, which is why I was super excited when Basic Invite approached me about a collaboration. Basically they unknowingly saved me from giving Alice a complex one day with one easy solution: birth announcements.

For some reason, doing birth announcements for my kids was a thing that never really crossed my mind. I guess I thought maybe announcements might seem redundant because of social media, but there really is something special about receiving snail mail and announcements are a really nice option for older friends and relatives (read: great aunts who haven’t jumped on the Facebook/Instagram train). Everyone who’s received them so far has raved about how wonderful they are!

Something super cool about Basic Invite is that they have SO many options for customization. I was able to choose from over 160 different color options to change the color of any element on the card. I also changed the wording on the card, the fonts, font sizes and even the word placement. Basically everything was able to be tweaked and changed down to the littlest detail.

This is what the original birth announcement template looked like:

And here you can see all the little changes I made. It was nice to have a template to start from so it wasn’t completely overwhelming, but I was still able to make it completely my own. Color changes, font changes and wording changes.  I also opted for rounded corners, because it creates a nice finished look and upgraded to the luxe velvet paper. It’s a nice heavy weight and seriously feels SO soft – like suede. Who knew paper could be so fancy?!

I could’ve also opted for a custom sample, but I wanted them quickly and had faith that Basic Invite would do these justice and they definitely did!

Also, while I know envelopes aren’t the star here, can we just talk about them for a second? All of Basic Invite’s envelopes are peel and seal!  Not licking disgusting envelope glue is something I can definitely get on-board with.

The finished announcements turned out so wonderfully and were exactly what I wanted!

So in the end our friends and family received lovely birth announcements and Alice has hopefully avoided future therapy because I saved one to put in her baby book. It may be the only thing that actually ends up in there, but she’ll be able to gloat to her siblings about how she was the only child who got them.
